White people like these have systematically denigrated people of color throughout the history of this country. Finally, when the person of color calls the master out on these insults, the white master decides in his arrogance how the person of color should or should not feel. That is the height of white privilege.

As an Indian American, I find Apu absolutely hilarious!

Don't take him away and stop taking everything in life so freakin seriously. If you have time to make a movie about how a cartoon character has insulted you....well you have it pretty damn good.

Yeah, he has every right to have an opinion and make a documentary. And people should have every right to their own opinion of Apu and his portrayal. Honestly, the fact that the far left would be kind of surprised by y'all's reactions in this thread -- and trust me, a lot of them would -- says a ton about that particular bubble.

I'd tell everyone to grab their pitchforks over this important social issue, but apparently the Simpsons have already got that covered.

Apu is a hard working man. He works 24 hours a day to support his 15 children dammit!

What about BumbleBee Man or Groundskeeper Willie? Uter, the German fat kid who only wears lederhosen? Krusty's Jewish frugality? The Simpsons have over-the-top (some might say "cartoonish") stereotypes for their characters. The only stereotype too insultingly on the nose is Cletus.

Saw this in the WaPo a couple weeks ago. Same as the crap nonsense with Cat In The Hat - hair-splitting social justice worriers.

How is Apu a denigration of anyone? Also I tell people how they should feel all the time. 'stop being so sensitive' is what i would tell the makers of this documentary. You don't get to just declare 'im offended' and nobody can call you out on it. Attitudes like this are just sucking the humor out of this world. I can't imagine what would happen if a movie like Blazing Saddles came out today.

Yeahhhh, as an Indian-American, I'll readily admit that I laughed my ass off at Apu. The Simpsons was my childhood, and I regret nothing.

lol white people and their reactive sensitivities. It's not a partisan thing, thank god. It's an American thing.

I admit apu was hilarious growing up, but
1 no one watches the simpsons anymore, so why wipipo angry again?
2 if a minority gets blackfaced, saying it was done to be funny doesn't really dive into the criticism those groups had in the first place.

My wife is indian, and when I was going to visit her family she just warned me "don't do a stupid Apu impression"

Her grandfather sounded just like him.

She thinks character is hilarious too.

From my perspective people need to lighten the F up.

I'm a white guy, and it still makes me laugh listening to Richard Pryor doing his white guy voice impression (or any impression he did of white people).

    Just my two cents.

However if people are offended by it so be it they have every right to voice their displeasure.

Did you even watch the video? The only people offended are Indians.

I hope this is just a poor attempt at being ironic.. and totally unserious.

Because if you are actually serious..

That would be one of the most pathetic things I have ever heard.
