Would Kyrie winning MVP over Harden be a travesty?

Barkley just said on TNT tonight that Kyrie is the clear front runner for MVP. I'm not saying I agree but I can certainly see the case to be made for Kyrie winning MVP (as I can for Harden as well).

Harden is 1st in the West with CP3 hurt all year long while leading the NBA in PPG and APG.
Kyrie is 1st in the East and 1st in the NBA with Hayward hurt all year long.

It really could go either way; about as close to 50/50 I'd say. Both guys deserve it but only one guy can win.

    What do you guys think?

As of now, you'd probably have to give the slight edge to Harden. The Celtics are 2-0 without Kyrie this year. He also shot 4-16 tonight in the win tonight against the Warriors but he did score 11 of their last 15 points. The media will focus on the 11 of their last 15 points stat and forget about the 4-16 fg stat though, lol.

Yes... period. Kyrie hasn't even been that great. Stevens, Horford, Brown and Tatum have been even better than expected and Kyrie has been their scorer

I hate the whining that constantly goes on with this site, portraying he rockets as always being slighted.

But regarding this thread of course it’s Irving because it has switched back to player on the team with the better record. It alternates every year from now on.

Kyrie went 4 for 16 and they still beat the Warriors with the big 4. We all know Rockets ain't beating Warriors with those numbers from Harden.

Itd be pretty dumb but there is a whole lotta season left tbh. Kyrie can take the bs media praise for the next day or two.

Im just glad the celtics knocked the warriors down for us.

    Yes.

Even Celtics fans (usually some of the biggest homers) are saying that Irving has been so-so this year. All of his numbers are down and his efficiency is mediocre, at best.

Horford has been their best player.

No but clearly Kyrie Irving doesn't have to do what Harden does for his team to win.

Isaiah Thomas was more worthy last year than Kyrie this year.

Going into tonight bball reference mvp probability tracker had Harden at 51% and Kyrie at 2%(2nd on his own team behind Horford).

So yes it would be a travesty.

it's too early because we still don't know how the season will play out, but as of right now kyrie shouldn't even be close to harden in mvp talks.

I wouldn’t be mad about Kyrie winning but it would just show that each year the rules change to make sure Harden doesn’t win

the Celtics are great because they play elite team defense and have a solid, smart game plan. Harden, Embiid and Giannis are clear MVP candidates over Kyrie and probably a ton of other players too.
