How will Zhou Qi be viewed by the end of the season?

Zhou might make take the cake for most youtube highlight videos for someone who scores less than 4 points.

 

It's hard not to get at least a little excited by the potential. He's over 7 feet tall, young, and not totally lost on defense. If all he ever develops into is a shot-blocker and team defender who's smart enough to pass out of the paint to the right guy while on offense, that's something we could really use. Anything more than that is gravy.

This video was pretty damned cool. And Qi may or may not ever be more than a rotation player but rooting against a Rocket with the venom and hate that Tin-man displays is more than ignorance, it's downright pathetic.

 

Interesting to see he and Capela getting minutes together.

That’s a really long, athletic front court to think about if you’re planning on driving the ball to the rim.

The most impressive thing about him right now is the ability to move his feet and stay in front of attackers starting at the 3 point line. I think most guys relish the opportunity to shake 7’ defender. Having 2 bigs who could switch out to the ball, that could really make pick and rolls and drives a hard thing to accomplish.

When will Qi make a 3?

 

I saw him in two games at summer league
He didn’t make one three pointer
Now in the regular season he hasn’t made in one yet

You realize if this was Ryan Anderson people would throw him off the plane

 

Qi has some D potential at least. The only thing anderson has is 3's. Its imperative he makes them.

Rockets coach Mike D’Antoni said the plan remains for Zhou to remain with the Rockets through much of the season, but that he could pick up playing time with the Vipers when it won’t take away from his work with the Rockets. D'Antoni also said he will not evaluate Zhou in games with the Rockets or Vipers, having seen enough in practice.

“Zhou Qi is going to be with us most of the time,” D’Antoni said. “Anytime we can get him down there to play a game or two, he’ll go down. But we want him up here to continue to learn. Our program for him has not changed. It won’t change. Whether he plays 30 games or two games, I don’t know, but it’s going to be a year we try to get him as much experience as we can and keep improving.
