At times throughout the year, some posters start threads to pose a trade idea. If lots of people post trade ideas, it clutters up the forum, so we decided in 2006 to try to have one thread for "random trade ideas" that are not based on news involving the Rockets. They are simply, "What do you think about... " scenarios.

Here are the rules of the "Random Trade Idea" thread.

    1) Keep your trade ideas realistic. We all know why the Rockets would want a superstar ... but try to ask the question "Why does it make sense for the other team?"

    2) Don't be a jerk. There are going to be unrealistic scenarios posted ... just point out to them why it couldn't happen, if you feel so inclined. Report the post as ludicrous if you must, but don't nuke the poster and call them names. It spirals the thread down.

    The dark horse team
Houston Rockets | Projected cap space: None

Don't count out GM Daryl Morey when it comes to getting a seat at the free-agent table. Even without cap space in recent years, Houston has been at the front of the line when it comes to recruiting players.

For Morey to get an audience next summer, Houston will need to come up with a plan to shed salary. Houston is likely to be in the luxury tax with the pending free agency of Chris Paul and Clint Capela.

In order for Houston to clear its books, Ryan Anderson, Nene, Eric Gordon and PJ Tucker would need to be traded. All of those players have at least two years left on their contracts, and finding a home could be challenging. Just look at the Rockets' struggles to move Anderson this past offseason.

If the Rockets do pull off all those moves, $20.5 million in room would be available, with only the $30.4 million James Harden contract and cap holds of $35.7 million for Chris Paul and $7 million for Capela counting on their books.

    Remember.....Morey can find ways....

The Rockets didn't have cap space, so all that was available was their midlevel exception. They offered him a four-year deal worth $32 million. But Morey, a mastermind at maneuvering through the cap, began jotting down -- right there on the conference table -- lucrative sign-and-trade scenarios like a mad scientist, sources said. It was understood that this would be the lone route at persuading Iguodala to join the team.

    some of my trade targets

-Boogie: for Ryan Anderson, a 1st round pick, and Clint Capela

-Tobias Harris: not sure how this could get done because they’re not taking Ryan Anderson and I wouldn’t want to lose Gordon or Capela for him...he would be the creator that we desperately lack in the front court and would give us some more athleticism...capable shooter and scorer that can hold his own at the PF spot, he’d be a definite upgrade over Ryno...also, he’ll be very easy to move next summer if need be because he’d have 1 year left on his deal at less than 15 mil

-Joe Johnson: gives us another play maker and creator...he’s played in D’antoni’s system before and can play the 2 or the 3...his contract expires after this season

MDA for a Coach who does more than 3 point shooting and knows when to call timeouts and plays more than 7 players a game.

Anderson + Onuaku + First Round Pick OR 2 Second Round picks

    FOR

    Ilyasova + Belinelli

Might be an overpay but figure it's gonna cost to ditch Anderson. Ilyasova is the same mold of player - not as great a shooter but a better rebounder. Bell is a shooter plain and simple, provides some depth. Both are expiring contracts this offseason.

Rockets don't have a 1st round pick this year. It was used in the Chris Paul trade.

Obviously Boogie should be our number 1 priority but I really think we should look at Belinelli to give our second unit some scoring.

Article on RealGM saying Capela was potentially offered with pick and other players for D'Andre Jordan. I somewhat called this one, think he is what they want Capelea to be and now that Capela is a restricted free agent they may still be looking to move if especially if he has a stretch of good games. I honestly think this is still a possibility although I am more concerned about our PF spot than our center position.

    Anderson/Capela for Brook Lopez

Losing Capela sucks, but Lopez could put up some monster numbers in a system like ours. More importantly, he’s an expiring contract. Positions us to be a serious contender to sign LeBron in the offseason. Capela’s upside and rising stock might be enough to convince the Lakers to absorb Ryno’s deal without any sweeteners on our end.

Lakers are going after max level free agents next summer...they will want nothing to do with Anderson’s contract at all

    Ryan to philly for Reddick

The 6ers clearly wanted some locker room presence and veterans to start teaching the young guys and giving the team a good locker room. They wanted to start being competitive.

But, Reddick was and is a 1 year cash grab. Philly knows this and that he likely jumps ship.

Ryan and Reddick provide the same contribution just at different positions. I'd argue they would benefit more from Ryan giving embiid more space to operate.

The length of the contract I don't think would be an issue for philly and could be a somewhat positive. He's a known great locker room guy and under contract a few years. They haven't been able to sign quality players because the almighty tank.

For Houston, it's the same exact skill set at a different position but with some added off ball movement and which is something we lack. Also, he is more capable of perimeter switching defense. You can shift ariza over and just embrace small ball.

    Harden
    Reddick
    Ariza
    Capela
