Big Bob currently under fire: "Cant let the inmates run the prison"

Management that concerns themselves with the opinions of the employees to the detriment of the business is bad management. Employees come and go and are easily replaceable....especially given that they don't really have any prospects for comparable employment. You can't let those morons damage your product.

 

First let me say that I think people complain and apologize about **** way too much. People overreact. (wait for it...BUT : )

Let's start with a fact. What he said is not a common idiom and I don't think that is an opinion. The entire algorithm of Google is to understand what is common interest and show someone what is the most likely thing they are looking for. It' is a representation of the common. Google "the inmates are running the prison" and all you get are articles and pages about the "inmates are running the asylum." That's the idiom so what he said isn't just dropping something that people say.

His subconscious changed the metaphor to something that he felt was more appropriate which means there is no defense of "a common idiom." It's how he sees things. It's likely a reflection of the level of control and subjugation he feels the relationship between owner and player should be. Now, that could just be because he's rich and sees his employees as property. That's not surprising for a rich mother ****er. BUT It certainly doesn't help that his employees are mostly black and he serves on a very homogenous circle of power.

Best Case Scenario, McNair is a stereotypical rich businessman. Worse Case Scenario, he's also racist.

That you automatically jump to the conclusion that "inmates running the....." refers to black people. That's racist thinking!!

 

Not as bad a spot as the Cows players whom Jones made to look like plantation workers with his "edict" on standing. Which was laughable to many (including myself) since NO Cows players were kneeling in the first place. It was a classic example of a white man trying to put black men in their "place" which is what the alt-right "cnservatives" are seeking to happen under DT. While McNair lost me completely with his support of Donald "IL Duce" Trump, I believe the saying he was refering to is "Letting the inmates run the asylum" which Bumbling Bob misconstrued.

 

People generally associate "inmates" with "prison" rather than "asylum", which is the likely cause of him screwing up the end of the idiom. It should be pretty obvious what he was trying to say, and it wasn't to call the players prisoners, it was to say that you can't let the players run the business because they are ill equipped to do so and it will result in chaos.

Of course, we don't want to talk about the merits of what he was intending to convey, we want to talk about the spin. There's absolutely no case that Bob McNair is racist even if he is from the Carolinas and he donated to a politician that some people don't like. An actual racist wouldn't have his team run by a black man and stand by him as MANY call for his head year after year. The narrative that some want to advance simply doesn't make sense.

 

Bare minimum takeaway is that it's an offensive comment. McNair realized it and that's why he apologized. It's not wrong for people to be offended by McNair's comments.

As to the question of whether McNair is racist, well he's 79 year old white guy, born and raised during a time period of extreme racism. He has donated to the Trump campaign. In terms of fitting the profile of a racist person, McNair checks a bunch of boxes.

 

Rick Smith works for McNair. A true racist doesn't like taking orders from a black man (see Obama hatred), but when it comes to bossing black people around, that's right up their alley.

 

So basically, if he hires black executives he's a racist, if he doesn't hire them, he's a racist.

And billionaires don't like taking orders...from anybody.

 

Even if you don't think it's racist, he's calling his own employees "inmates."

And they aren't even his employees. They are the stars. It's like if Harvey Weinstein thought he could just abuse his actresses....oops

If we're taking his comment literally then Tom Brady is as much an inmate as Pacman Jones.

 

Yeah, he also kept him around when nobody in the city wanted him, and allowed him to give the franchise keys to a black QB.

If he is a racist, he sucks at it.

Times do change and in this case for the worse. I absolutely love the NFL Players destroying the very thing that has made them millionaires. When the next TV goes down and they lose billions in revenue I hope each of these players remember the part they played.

 

Can we decipher between the comments
1. "Bob McNair is racist/prejudice",
2. "Bob McNair's comments are racist/prejudice", and
3. "These comments are proof that he is racist/prejudic"?
