all McNair had to say was "the merits of the protests are irrelevant, we can't have employees deliberately offending our paying customers on the job, and damaging our ability to generate revenue"

At what point did I say he was racist? Don’t try to put words in my post

He should be ashamed of himself.....the saying is "Inmates running the asylum", not prison. Get your idioms right Bob!

As to the content of what he said, he's not nothing to apologize for and he's absolutely right. If you let the employees run the show, the business will be doomed.

I don't think it was racist. There is no way a minority group of less than 20% makes up the majority of inmates. Take that for Data.

Gave Trump 1m. Not surprising at all. Like Sherm said just releasing his true colors.

Now that said.....of course you'll have some knuckle draggers get offended or at least pretend they are offended by his statement and I'm fine with that. You shouldn't cater to the whims of stupid people, let them be offended or pretend to be offended, who cares?

It was a malaprop... the expression is you "can't let the inmates run the asylum"... which twists the original "the lunatics are running the asylum"...

And it was very poorly applied. McNair would have needed a speech filter -- an intervention and a long explanation for him to understand how those words would at least be inadvised and likely be taken with offense by many former/current players -- to give him the time and context needed to avoid using that mischaracterization.

It's too bad the furor the media will fan the flames over will be McNair's malaprop and not the fact that majority of the owners stood up in opposition to Jerruh Jones' attempts to take personal control over the league and mandate players stand.

That is correct. You do see what forum this thread is in right? You do know, all youre doing is b****ing right? Keep following headlines and reacting accordingly.

Hes pretty much got a black son in rick smith and youre calling him out to be a neo-nazi. People with money arent human right? They cant make mistakes, they have to be perfect. Bring out the pitchforks for the first screw up that comes out their mouth. SMDH

Black players who make millions have used the analogy of being slaves and there is zero backlash.

This is literally an expression that's used by management in organizations all the time. The sissy, ultra sensative culture we live in now likes to grab anything and run with it.

It's clearly bad for business, nobody is paying money to watch spoiled brats protest.

That isn't the expression. Inmates running the asylum is the expression. Not that it matters much.

Because they are being compared to prisoners? Because this discussion is taking place in large part to how black people are treated by the justice system? Do you know how many white people these days are saying these NFL players that are taking a knee are nothing more than thugs and criminals?

It was offensive. It was incredibly stupid and tone deaf. Just because something isn't intended to be offensive, doesn't make it suddenly not offensive.

Couldn't he have just said you can't let the chickens run the coop?

The man is dying, I'm fairly certain. I guess that will make some people happy if/when it happens.

I'm glad he apologized. Move on....

Definitely a poor choice of words. It just reeks of old, rich white guy being tone deaf and out of touch with reality, but some people take things too seriously...

Nobody was paying money to watch football players stand for the National Anthem...

The part people pay money for hasn't changed (well, except for rules to try to reduce injuries).

I don't consider this a screw up, just because what he said is being spun as something offensive doesn't mean that what he said was actually offensive.....and let's face it, the type of people who would be offended by a common idiom or who would pretend to be offended by a common idiom aren't the kind of people who matter.

Management that doesn't concern itself with the opinions of the employees is bad management.

Neither the owners nor the players are doing what is in the long term best interest of football.

The owners are seeing that these issues are having a clear effect on the long term bottom line, and couldn't care less about the very legitimate issues behind the protests. The owners view players as employees that should only know their place, and it has been that way since the sports became business, even before black players were allowed on the field.

Meanwhile the players refuse to acknowledge how showing open disrespect for something held in reverence could possibly piss people off, instead it's easier just to scream racist at everybody who disagrees with them.

Combined with the major long term health issues, this sport is in trouble, big trouble.
