Celebrities taking the game's First Shot, like a First Pitch in baseball. For charity, money given based upon accuracy of the shot.

Well, he's definitely thinking about the late seating problem. This can't hurt, and since he did it so fast, likely more ideas to follow.

"I've always had a thing, why should baseball have first pitch and we not have something for basketball," Fertitta said. "Starting tomorrow night we're starting "First Shot." It's going to be right after the anthem. They'll come to the free throw line and take the shot, one shot. If they make it, we're going to give $5,000 to charity. If they miss it, we're going to give $1,000. Tomorrow night we're starting it out with DeAndre Hopkins. It'll be something fun that we'll start a tradition."

Fertitta said he came up with the idea since his purchase of the team in an effort to give to charities each game.

"That's one of the reasons I wanted to do it," Fertitta said. "They're going to want to see who the person is. We'll make a big deal of it up on the screen. We have a logo for it. We'll have an autograph wall that everyone that does it will sign it. It's something we'll have fun with. It's something for the fans.

"The day that you own it, you start thinking of stuff to kind of mix it up. I did not sit there in my seats watching the game and said, "One day if I own a team I want to start this First Shot. My brain's clicking."

I must say I love the idea. I hope they televise it on league pass. I'll be curious about it.

Meh in sure it will be a nice bit and good for charity but I always thought throwing out the first pitch was corny.

    Poll added.

Am I trying to persuade you to like this idea and spread the word to help Tilman succeed in getting fans into their seat...maybe maybe no

Seriously though, Rockets are likely to read this. Answering yes to second option will tell them to get serious, book the celebs, and tweet them out ... don't let it devolve to some last minute random fan taking the First Shot

Voting No in last option is a good way to tell Tilman to keep trying. He needs better ideas to get fans in seat.

I predict the First Shot will be as common throughout the NBA as the First Pitch in baseball by next season.

It should be shot with a signed basketball by the celeb and full Rockets Team and awarded randomly to a seat number. But you must be in your seat to get it, or they call out another seat number.

In fact, later in the game Clutch the Bear will taunt you into embarrassment full screen on Jumbotron, if you weren't in your seat to win that basketball.

How about the early birds get to sit in the lower bowl section that appears on TV?

Nice poll. Sincerely enjoyed giving an insincere answer.

Real answer: I will be there and won't care* about these shenanigans.

    * = good for the charity but I don't care to watch the shot.

Edit: I like the idea of fan incentives...like a signed ball by rockets players if you are the first X number of people in the building to see it actually happen.

People who don't give a rat's ass about celebrities (me, for one) aren't going to be motivated by this "first shot" thing. Do a cash / prize pack giveaway during warm ups that's based on seat number, which you have until tip off to claim (in case you're in line for food, using the restroom, etc.). Start at $100 and bump it up by another $100 every game until it's claimed.

What you need to do is let the fans shake hands with the celebrity on the way into the arena. But you need a celebrity worth shaking hands with, and I seriously doubt Houston call pull it off for 41 games, let alone 1 or 2. But people want an experience, give it to them, and u will get your mob like experience.

I'm wondering if teams should bring in a seat holders policy, where a rowdy kid can sit in your seat until you show up, and then you escort the kid into a movie room where he can watch rest of the game on IMAX screen with Cluth Bears cub.

Everyone who gets there in time for the First Shot gets a 3" pewter collectible basketball marking the occasion, to keep if the celebrity makes it. If they miss the shot, everyone throws their balls at the celebrity as they run off the court, and the pewter would be collected off the floor and repainted with a different date/celebrity/charity, for another First Shot down the line.

The celebrity does wear a helmet and some light body padding.

Really good idea. I don’t think it gets anyone in their seats any earlier though. With game 7 going on down the street will anyone be in their seats tonight? I’ll flip over during commercials.
