This won't help Harden, a stronger playoff performance under pressure will help his image.

Harden has had many great playoff performances, many in elimination games.

Those don't matter, though. People only pay attention to the bad ones, which yes, he needs to limit. But the point remains.

I think the problem is how he performs in these games. I don't mind a player having a bad game if he goes down fighting with everything he has. But when Harden has a bad game, he really mails it in. It's like he doesn't give a **** just because his game is not on. I think the majority accept that Harden is only human, but we don't accept mailing it in just because things aren't going your way.

There is a huge difference between having a bad game but trying to do things elsewhere versus having a bad game and mailing it in.

Sure. That's very fair. I just think people let those 1-2 games unreasonably cloud everything.

those 2 games were games in the playoff, with their best defender and player out, not some random games in the regular season.

While there may have been some truth to what McHale was saying, it was totally out of line and reeked of bitterness. As the head coach, it's your job to make your players better in all areas of their game, including leadership. McHale failed miserably at this, was a terrible coach and deserved to get fired.

Harden did a great job of being a leader on the floor throughout most of last season. It was obvious that D'Antoni helped him in this area. I'm sure he'll continue to improve as well. Good for him for standing up for himself.

most anybody can be a leader when thy're happy and things are good and going their way - then its just rah rah, good job guys, keep it up, clap clap....

and quite another to lead when you're displeased or things aren't going well and you're facing adversity...

jus sayin... big difference between those scenarios...

that's such a cop out argument. . fact is Curry won in the clutch.. Harden has choked so far in his career. Choked with OKC ... and choked with us..last years playoff performance is probably the worst choke job by a so called super star in league history.

so you admit Curry wouldn't have carried the rockets farther than James Harden last year..

you think james harden is the problem why he hasn't carried the rockets farther? or is it because he didn't have a superteam around him?

wow.. so you are basing being a good defensive player on single plays, in a single game.. ..yea that's very accurate. by that measure don't forget all the times JJ Reddick, Crawford, etc get new career highs when Harden guards them..

Removing your clear bias..... NBA Advance analytics certainly disagrees with you...

    https://stats.nba.com/players/defense/?Season=2016-17&SeasonType=Regular Season&sort=DEF_WS&dir=-1

You can read about all the defensive metrics they track .. Curry is at #3 .. while harden is buried on page 2 at #89. I concede stats don't tell the whole picture but it certainly a hell lot more meaningful/credible than your biased eye test.

Anyone here who understands old people, know that they just want to feel relevant. When Mchale wasn't coaching he'd be on TV yapping his mouth off. Well it seems like he can't even get a job in that these days besides maybe a cameo here and there. The old man just wants to feel like he is still relevant in the basketball world. He loves the game but doesn't realize his time is done and just needs to retire. Kind of like the rumors about Kareem. So he says stuff to say stuff.
    It's just sad...

Yeah ah, I've already disproved the 'biased eye test'.

So just ponder how you think Harden would look in the Warriors defensive system before you come in here with this nonsense.

I never said it'll help Harden, I said he has the right to defend his image. Just like any person who thinks he is being slandered in public.

Or do you not say anything when your colleague or whoever starts spouting BS about you to everyone? Like if your coworker starts spreading lies like you keep stealing office supplies, you come in late and everybody you work with hates your guts do you keep silent? Gimme a break

Curry was beat out for FMVP by a bench player. Why do you think that was?

Defensive win shares?! LMAO those are heavily skewed to overall team defense. Why do you think there's 5 Warriors in the top 10?

You really think LMA is better defender than Kawhi too?

Cause that's what that stat is telling us as well.

DRPM has Curry as the as the 20th ranked defensive point guard.

    Zero chance he's a top 5 defender.

    Someone else already responded.

It's not that those don't matter... it's that their overshadowed by his bad games because of the way they are bad.

But even more than that.... we're talking about a guy who is and wants to be considered in that top 5 player category and top players of all time. It'd be nice if he could be part of a super team and a bad game is mirigated. And heck that's the idea with CP3. But for now we're talking about a guy that wants to be and we're arguing about his ultimate place and in that argument the way he has bad games in the playoffs holds more weight on his resume.

I personally can point to some bad games by other greats - Kobes game 7 against the Celtics. KD against the Warriors when it mattered. But they are few and far between and harder to remember as those players have success stories surrounding them. Meaning rings.

To get to the point where Hardens bad playoff games aren't as prominent... he'll have to have fewer and replace those memories with more great memories way deeper in the playoffs.
