There's no reason football season and basketball season need to overlap. Start the season march 1 st. That's a schedule change I can get behind.

Yup, so ridiculous how Lebron and others got blasted for it while people have been doing it for years. The resting during marquee match ups though, that I'm not so sure about, but yeah it's basically about the main man.

    1. LeBron draws the attention because he is extremely popular and visible. One can argue that we are likely getting more of LeBron games due to the rest games that he takes. Last season, LeBron missed 6 out of 82 regular season games and didn't miss a playoff game. A high ankle sprain or a host of other injuries that fatigue could have caused would have knocked him out for far more games.

People get mad about LeBron "choosing" to miss game as oppose to "having" to miss games. But if we look at it mathematically, LeBron's schedule is likely minimizing the # of games he actually misses.

    2. The other part of this that teams are correctly understanding that the NBA's playoff structure makes wins in the long regular season just not worth that much. More than half the teams will make the playoffs, and being a higher seed means you only get 1 more home game in a 7 game series.

So, a team knows it is certain to make the playoffs (like Cavs, Warriors, Spurs and probably Rockets now), why not rest guys in these low leverage regular season games to better your odds of having a healthy playoff roster?

I bet we will see fewer rest games if the incentives changes in the right way.

Pretty crazy, but teams will take that fine easily if a coach like Pop feels it’s better for the team. Very subjective though, where you draw the line?

if anything, I think we'll just see more injury's reported to cover the rest these guys need.

Is there a loophole where a team can start it's "high-profile" players, hack someone within seconds after the tip-off, then sub those players out?

    Pretty much.

It's easy to say a guy has a sore hammy one day and is simply not playing to rest it.
