That seemed to be the plan.

BUT if/when Savage gets destroyed and injured (again) Watson will still have to come in and try to run for his life behind that horrendous offensive line, an ability that Savage does not possess.

So I guess now the rookie's development has been thrust into overdrive mode. I'm hoping he develops quickly throughout the season but realize that o-line could stunt his growth with him getting rattled possibly every other play.

i don't want to see him in a texans uniform ever again. to pull that **** during harvey when it's known that he's collected 50m+, of which 30m was guaranteed money already, in his career. he'll raise a fist in support of Kap like a b**** but he won't show up to work and play for the folks who paid him all that money, the same folks who suffered through harvey. not sure on capology but i wouldn't cut him. just leave him to rot for 2 years.

Don't agree with the Harvey or Kap parts, nor do I agree with not wanting to see him back in a Texans uniform. But I'm definitely with you on being pissed that he's still holding out.

If I were the Texans, I wouldn't give in to whatever it is that he's demanding. There's a way to do everything, and Mr. Brown's way stinks. I'm starting to think that he's not even angling for a new contract but rather a trade.

i'm just pointing out that based on everything we know, we know exactly where his mind is. it's not on the people of houston, not on his teammates, not on his team, not on his employeers, etc... it's strictly on his pockets which is disingenuous because he's made 30m in guaranteed money and he acting like he been risking his lively hood on non-guaranteed contracts his entire career. pure bullshit from a fraud.

I'm with you. Let him continue to take $400k hits every week. He has a contract and there's no reason to release him from it.

The NFL cuts players all the time. If I was an NFL player I would try to maximize what I could get. The Texans have the cap space to pay him more.

I'm normally with that. I usually side with players. But to me it just doesn't seem like Brown has a leg to stand on with this one. He's obviously declining and still has another season after this one on his contract. His only leverage is to do exactly what is that he's doing now, holding out past past camp. But the flip side is that he's risking making his relationship with the org become toxic.

He's doing what he feels needs to be done, but this holdout has always seemed like a futile battle from the jump. To me at least. Which leads me to believe that he's angling for a trade. Especially considering that a lot of players his age who have already cashed in often prioritize winning and legacy (along with guaranteed cash) at this point in thier careers.

Furthermore, it's not as if this team doesn't ALWAYS take care of "thier guys". They always have.

I blame the front office for this whole D. Brown fiasco. No one in that office is putting their asses on the line every game risking injury. Pay that man his money so that you can continue building that O line around him. Enough time has been wasted already. The time for playing games is over once they start.........playing games.

Nah. He's been out since before Harvey. The Texans knew it. They didn't even talk to him or his agent. He came back in town and helped the city during the aftermath of Harvey. The Texans renegotiated with Watt and Andre two years before their deals were up so it is not uncalled for to do Duane's. The team is struggling right now. The team needs to pick up the phone and say "okay, let's talk". Money is not the issue here it is ego on both sides.

Or if you're not going to pay him at least get someone good enough that can replace him. I would understand if they went out and get Whitworth or Okung but all they did was draft a a tackle that is not ready to play yet. I think they just assumed Duane would give in and show up so they didn't even bother to talk to him about it.

I sure hope Watson doesn't become another Osweiller when it comes to turnovers and vanilla plays. I'm pretty sure Bill will play it safe all year as he gets his experience. After a few games we should know if he can pass well or not. Savage never really got that chance, only playing a couple full real games. Sitting on the sideline and practice just isn't the same. Being a fan of the passing game is the main reason I liked Savage more. I knew he could hit a deep target when he wasn't being blindsided in less than 3 seconds. I think with Watson it will be all about running and dumping it off on a side route. Lord help us when he starts trying to throw the long ball, if any defenders are near. Pinpoint accuracy isn't his strength.

O'Brien is a horrible coach. That's the explanation.

The time to maximize what you can get is when you are negotiating your contract. Not after you have signed the contract. Brown knew what the contract was when he signed it. He has no one but himself to blame if he's unhappy with his contract.

LOL. You're shocked that a player prioritizes his career/income over ... your happiness? You using Harvey as some kind of a lame crutch as to why a player shouldn't hold out seems to suggest all you care about is yourself and your own happiness of watching your football team. Never let a disaster go to waste, I guess.

I don't think he's blamed anyone - he's just using the method provided to him to rectify it. His contract specifies the consequences of happens if he doesn't play - he's just allowing those clauses to go into effect. He's OK with giving up that money in the short-term in an attempt to get something he wants down the line. It's not like he's not paying the fines or otherwise violating the rules of the league.

With an NFL contract there are two understandings. 1. If the player underperforms; the team will likely cut him before the contract ends. 2. If the player outperforms the contract, the player will likely try to get a new deal and likely hold out.

Both sides understood that when the contract was signed. The Texans weren't blindsided by this. They knew fit waa a possibility. They probably just thought Duane would give in. Speculation is that Duane Brown feels like he has outperformed his contract and has earned the right to negotiate two years early like they did for JJ and AJ.

The troubling thing is we have no clue what Duane wants. Usually, the player or his agent will release a statement letting the public know what he wants. Dude isn't even trying to save face with the media or make himself look good in this ordeal. This makes me think his issue is deeper than money and the Texans won't be able to meet his need. Does he have a problem with the coach? GM? Who knows? Just talk to the guy and if you can't agree, trade him.
