To piss off MerGrady fans (like the OP). ;)

"Uggghhhh . . . They retired Yao's number because of China money & only got into the Hall because of his global impact but won't retire the legend & Hall of Famer Tracy McGrady's number, who actually contributed on the basketball court?! Uggghhhh screw you Les!"

One of the proudest moments of my life seeing Vernon Maxwell 'like' my tweet.

I'm a year older than you and don't have a recollection of when Vernon Maxwell walked out on the team with Drexler addition championship season. Don't remember at all.

Just read about the faking an injury in 1995 and now I understand why his number could never be retired. Yao didn't do much so he shouldn't be retired either. Just leave 11 for guys like melo or lebron when they inevitably come here

I think you are just looking for things to hate as usual.
Why would Rockets retire 11 for Maxwell so many years after his retirement out of no where?
If they wanted to retire 11 for him, they'd done it before Yao was drafted. But they didn't. So there is never a competition between Yao and Maxwell for this number retirement.

Yao represented Houston honorably, selflessly and proudly for his entire career. He is and always will be one of the greatest Houstonians to ever live, and we are incredibly lucky to have him. Tracy was a talented Diva that would throw his teammates under the bus so quickly it would make your head spin, and Max was a role player. Might as well retire Mario too If we are going that route.

I think you don't know what you are talking about because Mad Max left the team during the playoffs of the second championship. I also think you are comparing a role player to the 2nd best center of HIS era behind Shaq....

Wait, this thread is about Vernon Maxwell and Yao Ming; both players who wore #11 while playing for us. Tracy wore #1. Why are you bringing him into this conversation?

See post #14 & #23 in your own thread. I did not bring Tracy McGrady into it.

    Good try though.

Go back over to the Mavs board. All you do is ride coattails here.

    GTFOH.

Exactly. As much as I love Vernon, he absolutely bailed on the team during the playoffs. Not just played a lazy game, but actually left the team -- something far worse than anything T-Mac ever did, and he gets raked over the coals around here daily. Praise the guy for helping us win a title and for being a social hero badass, but don't minimize his walking out on this teammates, coaches, fans, and the entire city. That was monumentally disrespectful, so much so that the only other NBA player I can remember ever who just up and quit his team during the playoffs was Rajon Rondo with the Mavs.

As for Mad Max having his number retired instead of Yao? Um... no.

Of the 8 rotation players on the '94 champs, Vernon was 8th in PER in the playoffs (and tied at 8 with Earl Cureton in Win Shares).
