Well the O line was giving Savage the small amount of time that QB's need to pass the ball effectively in preseason, I guess the thought was that they'd continue. If given that tiny amount of time, Savage is a remarkably better option at QB....but when you can't even reliably get 3 seconds from snap to being hit, it's best to go with more of a wildcat look than it is to having a pocket QB.
I would vote yes, but I was one of handful of people on the board who voted against the hire in the first place.
1 carry. Yeah that's on me I missed on that one. Will get him some reps next week brian. I'm serious when I say that he struggles processing information during the game.
Perhaps the dumbest thing he did was IR'ing Savage. Sooooo many things could be different had he not.
Poll on worst decision - IR Savage - bring in Hoyer and Mallet - name Mallet starter two separate years - dismantling the OL (bye to Brooks and Jones, alienating Duane) - passing up on Garropolo, Carr, etc - sign Lamar Miller and just run him up the middle - Brock - trade a 2nd rounder just to get rid of Brock - trade 5 picks for Nix and Strong - trade two first rounders for a QB who needs a lot of work (probably gave away the #1 overall pick next year) - benching the QB who won the job in training camp after the first half of the first game. Twice.
At least half of these are on Rick Smith. We don't know who's making the picks or signing the free agents but ultimately it's the GMs call.
This is part of the problem. The Texans need a Tom Coughlin-like executive vice president of football operations. The GM and Head Coach can report directly to him and not Bob McNair. This is incestuous relationship Smith has with the McNairs isn't good for anyone.
"The General" this morning said that if anyone goes this year it will be O'Brien because Rick Smith isn't going to get fired for one bad season... where are the pancake memes?
He is right though. Rick Smith just got an extension. He is basically family to the McNairs now. If OBrien was ever going to win a war with Rick Smith he was going to need to have a lot of success on the field. He took a shot at the king last year by leaking to the media and he missed. Now he's lost all leverage and the media is turning on OBrien.
If you haven't realized it yet, O'Brien had nothing to do with that offensive scheme. We would of seen glimpses of his genius by now. #FireO'brien
"...for one bad season." Rick Smith isn't going to get fired, PERIOD. He has a forever job and he'll only be gone when he wants to be gone. So they'll fire O'Brien at some point, hire a new guy, round & round in circles we go.
