Excited we get to beat up on the nerds next weekend to grease the gears on our offense. Think this game was about shaking the rust and building confidence for and in Kyle Allen. Thought he was mostly good, I thought he had some sweet throws down field, that first pick had me scratching my head but I just accepted it as a punt.

Defense looks sharp. Oliver gonna Oliver. Davis had a game. Thought I would've seen more from Chevis. Lots of Rust, big win considering circumstances and that this is our season's kickoff.

Garret Davis, only a junior and he's a captain. Hell of a game.

Good win (and on the road).

Rusty but that's to be expected in the first game.

The city's most popular college team starts 1-0 !!!

What's the highest reasonable ranking this year?

It feels so weird to win a game with defense.

Have to disagree. Coogs had a strong defense last year, In fact since the year before Hermann/Orlando arrived.

In the 15 years I've been watching UH football we've spent about 12 of those years setting records on offense.

Only since about 2014 have we had a defense worthy of notice, and even then, they weren't winning us games outright.

If the Applewhite era is going to be anemic offense and dominating defense, it is going to take me a while to get used to it.

I understand fully. My tickets are on the 11 yard line. Guess how I know that.

As a defense first guy, I just hope our new found defense era lasts longer than Ed Oliver's UH career.

Additionally, the defense pre-Herman was known for its strong secondary with David Gibbs (AKA Jack Boyz) and led the nation in takeaways. Herman inherited that in his inaugural season but that was basically over once William Jackson and Trevon Stewart graduated, but Ed Oliver's pass rush threat is a welcome addition.

Nice to see players like Garrett Davis stepping up and blossoming to beef up the secondary a bit. I hope Colin Wilder (a Katy High School product) starts to shine as well.

Nice to see a Trevon Stewart reference. I feel he never got enough credit for all he did.
