For the seventh season in a row, ESPN.com is ranking the top players in the NBA. Who will be the best player this season?

To get the final ranking, we asked our expert panel to vote on pairs of players.

Kevin Durant vs. LeBron James. Kyrie Irving vs. John Wall. Russell Westbrook vs. James Harden.

We asked, "Which player will be better in 2017-18?" To decide, voters had to consider both the quality and the quantity of each player's contributions to his team's ability to win games.

So... Dennis Schroder and Ryan Anderson are basically equally good, huh.

    Sloppy job, ESPN.

Hard to gauge once you go beyond the top 10-25.

How is Mirotic rated higher than Anderson?

    This makes no sense whatsoever.

    combine this:

We asked, "Which player will be better in 2017-18?" To decide, voters had to consider both the quality and the quantity of each player's contributions to his team's ability to win games.
    with this:

Ryan Anderson is also a beneficiary of Houston's system, as just 18 of his 506 3-point attempts last season came with a defender within 4 feet.
And the reason Anderson dropped in ranking must mean ESPN thinks the Melo trade will happen, and Ryan no longer beneficiary of MDA's offense.

    Melo to Houston confirmed

Came on strong at the end of the season, probably some recency bias.

    These ranks are a joke.
Favors is now healthy AND on a contract year but he dropped 55 spots? LOL

What's exciting is since Roberson jumped 73 spots due to All-Def 2nd team, Bev is clearly in top 75, with probably the biggest jump. Was 160 behind Roberson last year.

He might even get higher than Rubio, assuming ESPN didn't drop him out of 100 already.

Also why did Ben Simmons jump 40 spots just for being 1 year older, yet more injury prone?

ESPN cutting back on costs by shortening their list this yr from Top 200 to just Top 100.

Seems some of these players jumping into Top 100 are solely because ESPN isn't doing a Top 200 list this year, yet want to name the player. Simmons was 120 last year and Ginobody didn't improve that much ... they just want both players on the list...since they aren't naming 200 this year.

And need Roberson to jump 73 spots so they can say how much Westbrook made him better, yet still keep up the WB had no help argument.

D'Angelo Russell has James Harden lite potential. Im excited to see him with his own team, wouldnt shock me if he blew up next year and averaged like 25 /5/5. He has the ability, and i think in the long run he will prove to be much better than Lonzo Ball

Those D-Lo vs Harden stats are very striking. Keep in mind though that D-Lo at 21 was the #1 option on bad team while Harden was a #3 option and 6th Man on a contender. That brings down Harden's stats when he was 21.
