O'Brien wanted out of this losing organization in 2015.

He tried to convince McNair to add Jon Robinson or other as a scouting side GM, moving Rick to full administrative role.

    McNair extended Rick's contract.

O'Brien asked out of his contract, McNair held him to it for this year.

O'Brien will sprint out of Houston to succeed elsewhere. Texans will continue to never achieve the success Gary Kubiak and Wade Phillips did just one year removed from the joke that is Rick & Bob & Cal.

Yes. And get rid of Rick Smith while we're at it.

I honestly don't think he makes it past week 6.

That's how Rick Smith works. Will blame the entire season on Bob and say Vrabel needs a WHOLE season to see if he's the next coach.

    Rinse and repeat.

i'm more inclined to believe that at this point than not. pretty sure i've posted something similar almost every year going on 5 or 6 years but we sit hear and b**** and moan about our terrible coaches and our terrible qb's and our terrible o line and our terrible "system" and yet the only constant this dismal franchise has had since the beginning is ownership and management.

there is something fundamentally flawed with the way this organization is run and it starts at the very top. granted there's little that can be done about it but until mcnair show's a willingness to get completely out of the way i'm not sure how anyone at this point can think the problem doesn't lay directly at the top. what that means exactly i don't know, but whatever it is that mcnair and company value the most sure as hell doesn't lead to them putting a competent, quality product on the field year in and year out. granted it's making them money hand over fist but this franchise is damn near as laughable today as they were in 2002 and there's been little positive in between.

This is disingenuous and a former pro should know better. You can't simulate real game pressure and even worse prime time pressure. Any Texans follower would realize that with all of our Sunday Night, Monday Night flops. Only way to find out if you can perform in the real thing is the real thing.

Short of winning the SB this year BOB is not staying. He knows what we all know that Ownership and The Sycophant are clueless.

Highly praised by and did extremely well with a coach (Bill) who trusts people do their job. Resurrected a DESTROYED Penn State to a very respectable level.

Yet the Texans have consistent mediocre success even after multiple and many staff changes except for a few stable folks.

Those two things clearly proves where the real problem is.

You know you're a bad coach when people legitimately believe you're sabotaging

Name the list of former Belichick disciples who did well as head coaches elsewhere.

Now list the ones that failed.

    Compare the two lists.

New England didn't miss a beat in losing BoB. What does that tell you about who's responsible for their success?

Penn State was also better the year before he took over, and didn't miss a beat after he left.

    1. Miss a beat is not a real classification. However, they've not broken the offensive records they set while he was OC.

    2. Fake news, they barely had a program due to scandal.

Not many people know that OBrien was "acting" OC for a year then wasn't offered the job

Belichick didn't want him for anything more than QB coach

People should never ascribe to malice that which can be explained by incompetence
