This guy definitely deserves his own thread. If you haven't been keeping up with the 2017 hurricane season thread, then you may not have heard about Jeff Piotrowski. He is an emmy award winning stormchaser. On Friday night he ventured into the heart of Hurricane Harvey to deliver some awe-inspiring live video. He has gone viral and has broken live streaming records. Watching his streams, with the knowledge that he could die or get inured at any moment, is extremely fascinating. Along with his epic bravery, he also presents fantastic computer models and is an excellent speaker. The blue shed that was in his video from Friday night has become a meme, complete with its own twitter account, as it stayed intact in 150mph winds. www.pscp.tv/Jeff_Piotrowski twitter: @Jeff_Piotrowski He is streaming Houston flood footage today. Long live Jeff. JEFF 2020
Holy mackerel, have you guys seen the map of Marco Island. It appears to be 80% man-made island in what should be the back bay of a small barrier island, like that Dubai man-made island. That entire "island" could go under water with a direct hit.
also, for those who are bored. Use Google Maps to see if you can find a Blue Shed on Marco Island for Jeff to hide in. methinks Blue Shed isn't dumb enough to be on that "island" though.
I felt this storm was seriously over hyped. Reports kept stating that Cuba would have little effect on the storm, but I suspected it would significantly weaken the storm. What I have noticed is anything outside of the 25-35 mile radius of the storm will only experience tropical storm wind, which pretty much covers the entire state. Earlier in the day it was projected to have cat 1 winds in my area, but I haven't experienced anything over 50. The worst of it is about over for me.
They do it on the TX coast at least, dredging stuff and rebuilding the barrier islands. If the Army Corps of Engineers hadn't messed with everything in the first place (channelizing the bayous around Houston, screwing with the Mississippi Delta around New Orleans, etc...) nature would do it for us, but we're smarter than nature, right?
