[QUOTE="csj, post: 11297768, member: 3938" Brown is on NO way a victim here, he is extraordinarily privileged and in violation of his contract, "right or wrong" is not a matter of opinion here. Players should be prevented from entering new contracts in the league when they are in violation of existing ones. The team is the victim here, they have to tolerate the cap hold and roster spot or lose talent they have under contract without compensation. This damages the product for the fans. No one in their right mind should take the side of a player in this position and it reflects poorly on those that do. It's a shame fans are so foolish on these issues.[/QUOTE] Well said, and I couldn't agree more!
I see Brown's issue. He's one of the top OL in the game and he's the 32nd highest paid. He deserves to be higher up on that list. That said, I don't have any sympathy for him. He's still paid in the millions and he's still under contract. Get your fat ass to NRG and be a part of this team...the same team that has made you a multi-millionaire and would likely be happy to do so again AFTER this season.
Duane Brown signed a contract. He is getting paid millions of dollars. Is he currently underpaid compared to his ability? Yes. That being said, there are many players in professional sports that get paid much less for their relative value and they somehow manage to play their games. This man plays a game (yes, a physically taxing one) for a living. He knows full well that the city of Houston is wishing he would play. To keep himself from looking like a completely selfish douchebag he is very publicly announcing his Harvey recovery efforts. He is just one man and can only do so much in that regard. If he really had Houston's best interests at heart he would play for our favorite team, of which he is a crucial part. By doing that he can boost the morale of the entire city. But he won't because he thinks he deserves MORE millions than entailed in the contract he willfully signed. Count me in the camp that thinks Duane Brown is a piece of sh*t. Hope he plays asap.
Duane Brown is the 11th highest paid LT this season in terms of total cash at 9.4 million. I'd say that salary is accurate for his ranking among all LTs. He is most certainly not underpaid. Tyron Smith is at 10 million...Joe Staley is at 8.85 million...Donald Penn is at 7.15 million.
Signed a deal with guaranteed years up front and now when final contract years go non-guaranteed wants a new deal?! HA!, that's not how contract work b****. You were never some underpaid rook or un-drafted fa who went all-pro and never got guaranteed money. You've made almost $30 million guaranteed over your career so fack you and GTFO!
Exactly. Just because it's already happened doesn't mean it's forgotten. He got his guaranteed money, a huge amount of it. He was not screwed. If every party to a contract could ignore it without consequence then there would be no contracts and no NFL. Perhaps there's a player with real grievances but Duane Brown is NOT that player. If he doesn't honor his contract, run him out of the league with prejudice. Be a Texans fan and an NFL fan, do not cheer those who would cheat the system for personal gain a screw their teams and teammates in the process. Sign a better contract next time, Duane, if your lucky enough to get offered one. People have a grossly distorted view of what's going on here. Brown is a filthy rich person violating a legal agreement in hopes of grabbing a bigger pile of undeserved cash. While fans are deluded into thinking he's trying to get that cash from undeserving owners, he is not, he's trying to take it from the pockets of teammates and from the fan base that funds it. Owners would never foot this bill, even if the salary cap allowed them to.
I thought they said the 3rd preseason game was cancelled? Savage is not going to last 2 weeks. Jax has a nice defense so every ball has been on point but broken up. When they're not getting broken up or dropped, savage is getting sacked
Let's waste draft picks on running backs and receivers when the offensive line is one of the worst in the league
Worst OL in football and the defense was trash as well. Watt, Clowney, and Mercilus may have well not have suited up for all the impact they had. Really hoping Watt doesn't end up like Cushing post injury. Just a solid guy who never seems to make an impact play anymore.
