Raptors And Kyle Wiltjer Have Agreed To A 1-Year, Non-Guaranteed Deal “I got thrown in the Chris Paul trade and I was really down after it happened because I thought Houston was a great spot for me,” Wiltjer told us. “It really showed me that anything can happen and you have to always be prepared to move. Ever since that happened, I’ve been working harder than ever with my trainers Corey Calliet and Sam Limon (Pure Sweat) and against other pros.”
The Rockets are the only team that can use Kyle's particular set of skills. The boy is too goofy looking to latch on anywhere else.
Per NBA rules (see statute 407.8(c)), a team may only have one player on its roster named Kyle. For this reason, wiltjer was waived. It has nothing to do with his skill set.
Wouldn't be a bad idea for Rockets to get in touch with his trainers with advice and have Wiltjer play in Europe till next season when we can sign him back up. He really needs to work on his physical fitness. I don't know if he'll overcome that limitation but it's good to hear he's working hard.
They may have fixed this (& I could be wrong) but I think he can re-sign with Houston now; similarly to Andrew Bogut. Bogut was traded from Golden State to Dallas, who traded him to Philadelphia & bought him out, where he was then eligible to re-sign with Golden State.
Something tells me Morey already called Toronto to sign him and waive him per the loophole @J.R. reminded us of, and offered them under-the-table compensation later.
That's Bima's take, too. So while Toronto as a 2nd team has signed and waived Wiltjer (like Philly did with Bogut), Dallas traded Bogut to Philly first; wherease, LAC waived Kyle. Bima thinks there is a distinction to be made between the two....because Bogut was traded subsequent to the trade from GSW.
