They swapped a guy who averaged 6 and 2 on 42/29/75 for a guy who averaged 19 and 6 on 46/37/86. What's strange? If he were younger, Simmons might be the better long-term investment, but he'll be 28 when the season starts. He's not a highly skilled player, and he'll be on the back end of his physical prime by the end of this contract. He's the kind of guy you add to round out a contender, not the Orlando Magic.
One of the most overrated guys on here. Gay on the other hand, is one of the most underrated guys on here. Not surprised by the responses in this thread. Spurs made a great move by letting go of Simmons and replacing him with Gay.
Did you forget Gay had a huge injury? Same one Wes Matthews had that saw his percentages, points, boards and assists all go down the following year.
Clutchfans hardly ever talks about Simmons. The Gay debate has been raging on since the Battier swap in '06. These two guys are not under or overrated here.. at all.
I know of his injury, I still think he's on a different level then Simmons, he may start out a bit rough but once he gets back to it he will still likely be considerably better then Simmons (even if he never reaches 100% again). Wesley is still doing decent too, I would love him on a MLE contract.
I've seen a lot of posters rave about Simmons after the Spurs series. A lot of people hate Gay on here.
You cant really blame them; Simmons played well in the playoffs considering he was inserted off the streets. I rarely see posts about Simmons unless he is playing against the Rockets are in a random game thread. There are an equal amount of posters that think the Rockets should have kept Gay instead of trading for Battier. I just don't think these players or over or underrated here on clutchfans.net.
He should thank the Rockets for that contract. I'm just glad he won't be playing for San Antonio anymore.
If he will be in the backside of his prime Gay is already in it, he will be 31 and 32 for his contract with the Spurs. As someone said he was also injured. At least they are not paying him 200 + trillion like the Rockets I assume are to Chris Paul.
Sure, but Gay is already the better player. We're comparing a 31 year old proven scorer to a 28 year old raw prospect. I mean, Gay has more 18+ scoring seasons (9) than Simmons does games (5).
