After the Melo trade (if it happens) we should sign a few players to round out the bench. My idea would be this roster ideally:

    Paul/Williams/Clark
    Harden/Gordon/Morrow
    Ariza/Tucker/Ilyasova
    Anthony/Gasol/Oliver
    Capela/NeNe/Qi

Gasol would probably sign on a vet min if we landed Anthony. Same with Williams. Clark, Morrow, and Ilyasova aren't worth much but they're all good shooters to come off the bench.

4 team trade with the Pelicans, Pistons, Knicks and Rockets:

    http://www.espn.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=y9xntmpj

Knicks get Reggie Jackson as the veteran PG they want to mentor Frank. Also shave off about 11M in salary so maybe a 1st pick won't be required.

Pistons get Anderson, Moore and Anjica. SVG loves Anderson and he could recreate his Magic teams with Dre and 4 shooters around. SVG gets rid of Reggie and Tobias, both who reportedly don't get along with him.

Pelicans get Harris as a very good perimeter player, which they desperately need with Davis and Cousins.

    Rockets get Melo.

    Potential 4-team deal for Melo:
    http://www.espn.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=y8r6yodg

    We get:
    -Melo
-Kyle O'Quinn (MUST HAZ MOAR BEARDS!)
    -Sean Kilpatrick

    Knicks get:
-Trevor Booker's expiring contract (maybe to buy him out?)
    -Andrew Nicholson
    -Caris LeVert
    -Archie Goodwin (NG?)
    -Isaiah Taylor (NG?)
    -Nanu
    -Shawn Long (NG)
    -Tim Quarterman (NG)
    -Rights to Isaiah Hartenstein

    Trailblazers get:
    -Ryan Anderson
    -Quincy Acy (NG?)
-Future 1st from us... top 3 protected (2020?)

    Nets get:
    -Allen Crabbe
    -Joakim Noah

Why we do it: Eh... duh. MELOOOOOOOOOOO! Post depth. Intrigue in Kilpatrick as a Lou replacement. Of course... this ruins our exciting Summer League team. It's okay though, Troy is the truth and Joe Chee is of course going to be the best Rocket of all time!!!

Why New York does it: They get to move off of Noah's RIDICULOUS contract as well as pick up a bunch of cap room and interesting young players.

Why Portland does it: Crabbe isn't as good as Ryan Anderson. Anderson's gravity makes their backcourt much more effective. They collect another 1st also.

Why Brooklyn does it: They get their guy in Crabbe!

    Thoughts? :D

^ lol no way Brooklyn does that. I heard they're high on Levert and you have them taking Noah's contract. We make out too well. We also get O'Quinn, come on.

and I'm not even sure Portland wants Anderson. They just drafted Collins and Swanigan.

Jazz willing to take Anderson and a first for Favors and Diaw. Morey looking for a better deal. Knicks would take favors. Portland will give up a second to get rid of Davis. So we could theoretically do 4 way by Saturday with Utah/Portland that would net us melo/davis and a second for Anderson/ngs/and a first with Diaw going to Portland and being waived.

Portland willing to give up a first if they could drop below luxury tax. We can't get that done.

Morey trying to figure out how to unload Anderson without sending a first now. Looking for a better deal that would only require us to give up a second or a couple seconds.

Best case scenario would be some kind of musical chairs with bad contracts among teams like:

    http://www.espn.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=yd6kctkr

PORTLAND OUT: Mo Harkless, Evan Turner, Meyers Leonard
PORTLAND IN: Ryan Anderson, Chinanu Onuaku, Isaiah Taylor
Why: Get off the horrible Turner contract for someone they can at least use in Anderson. Dump Leonard's contract as well. Sheds $15m(!) off this year's cap. Maybe they view Taylor, Onuaku as affordable prospective bench help?
Why not: Swapping Anderson for Turner may or may not be okay for them; hard to imagine a horrible defensive team taking a player that will make them even worse. The cost of Harkless for this swap is pretty high, this is dependent on how badly they dislike the Leonard contract.

    NEW YORK OUT: Carmelo Anthony
NEW YORK IN: Brandon Knight, Mo Harkless, Shawn Long
Why: Getting rid of Carmelo is the sole goal. The only viable information about their goal in this trade is to NOT take Ryan Anderson. They were "rumored" to like Harkless, and want a combo PG who can groom/share time with Franky Nicotine
Why not: Is Brandon Knight's contract really that much more palpable than Anderson's? I think their goal in this trade is to avoid taking on any money so they can maximize Porzingis' affordable rookie contract (However with Lee, Noah, and Thomas on the books, that is a pipe dream). Do they want actual assets for Melo? That will be nigh impossible.

    PHOENIX OUT: Brandon Knight
PHOENIX IN: Evan Turner, Meyers Leonard, Houston Rockets' 2020 1st Round (I'm sure with slight protection), Houston Rockets' 2021 2nd Round Pick (with two way protection)
Why: Swapping Evan Turner for Brandon Knight is only a slight downgrade (because Turner make 3.5m more/yr than Knight), both have been immovable since the second the ink dried on their respective contracts (and not for lack of trying); they want neither Leonard or Turner on the team, but they pick up a fair amount of draft capital in the process. They have already proclaimed themselves a "dumping ground" in return for future assets.
Why not: They legitimately do NOT have the minutes in the rotation for Leonard or Turner so this may the dumpiest of contract dumps. Maybe too dumpy. Most pundits say you need to attach a good 1st round pick to dump your bad contract (a la Nets-Lakers). They are desperate for a "Future" Center and have probably asked for Capela in every conversation in lieu of draft picks regardless of the fact that we keep telling them we only have two centers on our roster and one of them is a 35 year old injury waiting to happen.

    HOUSTON OUT:
    Ryan Anderson, 2020 1st, 2021 2nd
    HOUSTON IN: Carmelo Anthony
Why: Obvious, but costs us what little draft capital we have remaining. Oof.
    Why not: Why not?

I think Utah wins that trade if they can get a first from us, but at the same time its a win for us if we can get Melo for Ryno and a1st so iam conflicted on weather to think thats a good trade for us but in the end i would take it. So in this scenerio the knicks would take favors for Melo straight up? Is the 4th team we are trying to include being targeted to get Portlands 1st?...I can see why this is taking a while to formulate, so many questions and moving parts.

IMO Ryno has to go to a team thats not looking to tank obviously and need a stretch, which leaves a very thin field:
    Utah, Portland, Toronto

The fourth team will have to be a team willing to take a bad contract for a future asset ( probably a lottery team) which is a good thing because there is alot of potential suitors

Its hard to envision a 4 team trade including utah but i can defenitly see one including portland with a 4th team taking leonard and portlands 1st.

Wow holic; i didn't know you had the inside info. This is the most detailed info we've had on clutchfans about the Melo trade talks. I have no reason to doubt you, so i appreciate you passing this along. It certainly makes a lot of sense.

Wow, New York does pretty well getting Favors out of this. This is good for us; Davis is a FA after this coming season.

If this is he worst case scenario, we're in good shape.

All of this sounds wonderful. I'd be totally fine with sending a 1st with Ryno, but if Morey can dump him without giving up a 1st he'd deserve MAJOR props.

EDIT, that doesn't work salary wise though. What's the purpose of Portland/Ed Davis exactly if Jazz is willing to take on Anderson while sending pieces NYK would be fine with?

Houston Trades: Ryan Anderson, Trevor Ariza, Chinanu Onaku , Tim Quarterman

Houston Gets: Carmelo Anthony, Kyle O'Quinn

New York Trades: Carmelo Anthony, Courtney Lee, Kyle O'Quinn

New York Gets: Nicolas Batum, Trevor Ariza, Frank Kaminsky, Chinanu Onaku

Charlotte Trades: Nicolas Batum, Frank Kaminsky

Charlotte Gets: Ryan Anderson, Courtney Lee, Tim Quarterman

New York does it to obviously get a return on Melo. Replace the production with Batum and Ariza. Get a prospect in Frank who has a similar game to KP but is a lot better suited for the 5(IMO). Even tho NY signed Hardaway he could play PG. So trading Lee frees up the 2/3 for Ariza/Batum.

Charlotte does it to get a stretch 4 to play in the Charlotte offense and can play off Zeller/Dwight. Plus get Courtney Lee back to go along with Coach Clifford you have a mini reunion of the Old Magic.

Of course teams would throw in the necessary picks as the sweetener.

Works with the ngs and onuaku.
The purpose of the ed Davis thing is to get a pick back and have a usable player that can be moved at the deadline or later this summer or even after the season in conjunction with other salary to get a fourth piece.

Gordon plus Davis plus CC = ~ $21.5 million. That's enough for an.....ACE BIG!

    LOL.

The Portland talks were all about getting a first rounder by dumping Anderson. But Knicks don't want the players Portland wants to dump. They'll take harkless. But the players Portland wants to dump are worse value than rybo.

The deal mentioned is available. We're looking for something better. Remember we want that fourth guy. AceBig (Cuz Yule C DJ) this season and/or LeBron next season. That's why Morey keeps trying to squeeze a dollar out of a nickel. (Phone woke me up early going off once again about Cuz.) We gotta be positioned for moves after Melo.

You know it's always this way with Morey's trades.

Although it says successful in the link (glitch?) It says Rockets can't do it when you put that exact trade in.

    Off by 1.4 million.

This is minutia bro. Believe me it works. Melo waives trade kicker. Anderson and two ngs is enough salary for melo. The other three minimum salaries are enough for Davis. Have to be executed separately. With melo trade towards end of summer. Diaw to Portland for Davis before Sunday. Portland waives diaw. We send them cash for the second rounder. Then two months later three way between Utah Knicks and us, melo, favors, Davis, minimum salaries.

I can't get into all the iterations for you. There's too many. This is just one. Bottom line with Portland is they need out of luxury tax and they'll give a first to do that. Or they'll give a second to drop a player and get closer. And Diaw's guarantee date is Saturday. Utah just signed Udoh so there's Gobert's backup. And Utah needs floor spacing. And Favors is an expiring big with no range outside 17 feet.

Initial deal may be diaw for Harkless with Harkless going to Knicks in later melo deal.

Basically what's happened is now that teams know that Anderson can be moved with one first rounder, they are now willing to lower their asking price on Anderson and take him for one first. And Morey is trying to extract that first rounder from Portland. And he's close. Needs one more place to drop a salary. And also investigate the possibility of adding the fourth guy.

Just watch Utah Portland the next couple days and see if anything happens. Really.....watch Utah and Diaw's contract. See if they dump it to Portland or see if some other team emerges dumping a player on them for the cap space. It'll most likely be Portland though.

This is not about Melo. We're getting Melo. It's about the next deal(s) after Melo. (As is always the case with Mr. Sweet Cheeks.)

This is the part i'm off on, we don't have 5 small tradeable salaries currently, only 4.

    Onuaku
    Quarterman
    Long
    Taylor

When we send 2 with Melo, we will only have 2 left until Uthoff becomes packageable in 2 months. Not enough for Davis.

    EDIT

I just re-read you're post, you really think this trade won't be executed for 2 months? I hope it would be announced before then, or else this forum will explode.

Happens all the time. Announced and actually executed when everybody is trade eligible. Uthoff can't be traded for a while. But it could be announced and essentially be fine way ahead of time.

(And no, I still don't want to trade Uthoff.)
