Y'all know I'm not a fan of this move.
I think there is a REAL upside, which is the organization sends a clear message to FAs and potential Tier 1 players, which is "stay here, we'll not only play you max, we'll work our darn hardest to continue to get you more and more money"

But it is what it is and if they've chosen to ride with Harden, then whatever.

Is a 33/34 year old Harden getting paid $45+ million a year a moveable contract?

Can I assume it's absolutely fair to say that (1) at a MINIMUM the Rockets need to make multiple, like say 3+, Western Conference Finals the next 6 years to justify this extension now ... and, (2) more realistically, the Rockets need to make Finals and win one to justify this extension now??

Yes. In order to justify a max contract extension you need to win a title. I'm assuming that pass/fail standard applies to every other player currently in the league or historically in the league right? I'm assuming you wouldn't give Westbrook a max contract? Paul George? Gordon Hayward? Chris Paul? etc. etc. etc.

Dude got the years wrong. It's $228m for 6yrs. The 4 yr extension is just part of the 6yr contract.

James Harden was already signed to a max contract. he was signed to a historic, all-time high extension. There is no comparable to it... because there is no comparable to it, factually.

Moreover, as a fan, I expect any player the team signs to a max contract to lead or be a meaningful/prime/key part of a championship team.

That's EXACTLY why I'd be signing them to that max contract.

Again, James' case is unique. He was already locked up, already to a deal paying him close to $30 million a year, and already coming off ANOTHER playoff wtf dissapointment... so in his case, I think its even more pertinent.

No, this applies to all max contract players, but even more so to Harden, since there was no need to give him the extension.

The 228 is over 6 years. The last 4 is 4/170.

James Harden on pairing with Chris Paul: "It's going to be fun. There's no point guard or shooting guard. We just go out there and make plays and make our team better."

Harden will be on TMZ tomorrow. He's partying with Travis Scott and Kylie Jenner tonight. Lol

100% confirmation on that. I wonder if Paul steps out and joins him.
