Just checked in to cf for the first time since going on summer vacay ands saw this. Glad to see your surgery went well. Pt is going to suck more times than not, and it's going to be painful, but you just have to stick with it and stay mobile. I'm on week 5 of pt and I'm back to most low stress activities. No running yet, but I'm fishing on my boat already .
    Best of luck to you

hey guys, just thought I'd update. Getting the staples out today, so a bit of a milestone. So far, so okay. Pain hasn't been horrible, but I still don't have any use of my quad muscle yet in terms of being able to use or lift my leg. Also when I was in the hospital and just first moving around using the walker, I did some movement awkwardly and tweaked my back. Now a week and a half later it feels like my back sometimes hurts more than the knee. This is aggravated at night when I pretty much have to sleep on my back.

Other than that, I guess the surgery went well, and the home nurse visits and physical therapy people have been great. I go back to see the doctor at the 3-4 week mark, until then it's just hurry up and wait for quad muscle to come back to life.

well I will say that the nurse who came to the house on Friday was both the youngest and cutest of all of them so far. And she had a pretty light touch with the staple puller outer gizmo. ;)

Hadn't done a followup and thought I'd take advantage of this lull in the Carmelo Anthony Sweepstakes to say I'm almost to the five-week mark and doing well. Graduated to a cane from the walker last week, and slowly building back some strength in my leg muscles to the point where I can walk short distances without the cane. Pain hasn't been too bad to speak of, no more pretty nurses visiting the house. :( Will start outpatient physical therapy next week.

For the curious here's some pics of the knee. The OS was pleased with how everything went and said it looked good at the first checkup last week.

well, one of the benefits of being confined to quarters for a month or two is if you do it in the summer, you get to keep clutchfans on in the background of your computer and catch all the Carmelo rumors as they originate in real time

You let an operating system operate on your knee? Is that what happens on the Obamacare aluminum foil plan?

Just want to thank folks again for responding in this thread and for the supportive words. I re-read the thread yesterday and realized how many people had responded. I passed my five-week mark on Monday and right now am walking without a cane both indoors and around the yard. Knee is still swollen a bit, but much less so than even just a week ago. Still icing it pretty much constantly, so that helps. @Buck Turgidson , if you want to drop me a note and talk about knees and the decision to go for it or not, I'm happy to be a sounding board for you. I have benefited from a UK-based joint replacement forum called BoneSmart where people share their experiences, both good and bad. Some of the stories there make me realize how fortunate I have been (so far) that everything has gone so smoothly. Anyway, that's the update. Thanks again to all of you for responding.

Now that you've had it a couple of years, talk to me Goose. Tell me about the rehab, how long before you could do actual, serious stuff.

My less-bad knee got fubar'd along with a couple of ribs about a week ago. Once I can get around properly again it is hospital go time, I have to do something.
