According to this site we currently have about $115 million on the books. Next year's cap is expected to be around $108m. If we move Anderson and Gordon without taking back additional salary, we are left with $82.5 mil on the books. If we then moved Ariza and Tucker we would have about $69 mil on the books which gives Houston $39m in cap room. If we get rid of Nene, Zhou Qi and Onuaku's salarys we would have about $47m in cap space, and that's if we hang onto Capela's cap hold. Hypothetically, we can convince Chris Paul and LeBron to take paycuts and sign on for about $22 mil each, and then hope that a 36 year old Wade would be willing to sign on for the minimum or BAE if we still have it. Carmelo has 2 years left on his contract and if he gets bought out by the Knicks he can sign here on the cheap since he will still be earning like $24 mil from the Knicks for one more season. Basically it will only work if Melo gets bought out. After we sign them, we can match Capela's offer on the open market and field a lineup of: Paul Harden LeBron Carmelo Capela with Wade off the bench. Seems doable tbh. I should just add I'm not a cap expert by any means and all of this could be complete bullshit lol, but a Carmelo trade would definitely lessen our chances of a banana boat reunion in Houston. We would have to hope for a buyout.
Did you assign minimum roster charges for ever spot on the roster? Even if you cut guys you have to account for the roster spot with at least a minimum roster spot. Also, that's a lot of salary to have to move for nothing in return and there aren't going to be many places to absorb a bunch of salaries next year. This is a fantasy.
No. Lebron has said that he's done taking paycuts, and you're crazy if u think that either CP3 or Lebron would take 22 mil as a starting salary. They would be making barely more than Danilo Gallinari.
We can trade for Anthony on his current salary + future bird rights. We already have Paul and his bird rights going forward. Wade would have to bought out, he'd have to sign for minimum, then be okay with signing for MLE next off season for us to keep him. LeBron could be brought here on his full salary + bird rights in a S&T with contracts like Gordon, Ariza, Tucker being moved out. So it's possible cap wise, with only Wade taking a pay cut. That being said, it's jack **** crazy to think the Cavs would willingly S&T LBJ here, and it's jack **** crazy to think Wade would take a giant pay cut while everybody else on the team gets paid in full.
CP3 worked a sign and trade specifically to preserve his ability to get the five year max. No way he's taking a massive paycut from that number next year.
Anderson would be the only tough one to move. Gordon, Ariza and Tucker are under market value contracts so it shouldn't be that hard. I'm not saying Banana Boat is likely, I was just curious and did the rough math to see if it could even work. Figured I would post it.
yeah, it's just not realistic CP3 going from a starting salary of like 38 mil down to 34 mil? Ok, maybe. CP3 going from 38 mil to 22? Hell no.
LBJ needs to swallow his pride and take min McDonald wage of $7.25 per hour (that's what @swyyyguy told me is the min where he works) and Melo needs to take the min wage of waiting tables at $3 per hour (source: @Mr. Motiejunas )
GD all this banana boat nonsense! can people not think of a stupider or more arbitrary way to formulate a team... freakin banana boat bs... smh...
