I'm excited about the signing. I wanted him back pretty badly. When Nene went down, it seemed like the life of the team went down with him. In other words, the wind went out of our sails. I thought it was striking and it surprised me.

The structure of the Nene contract with Houston is three-years, $10.9m. Houston is not permitted to give Nene a four-year contract because of the Over 38 rule. The fourth season would have extended past his 38th birthday.

I think the most underrated aspect of Nenes contributions to this team is how Harden called him his mentor.

I truly feel Nene has and will continue to help Harden grow as a player outside of just skillset.

They can give him an over-38 year, but the money counts against the cap on the under-38 years (prorated and spread out). Thus, they can't give him the full non-Bird at 4 yrs, because the proration would take you over the max for non-Bird on the first year of the contract.

So, does this change something hp? Is this a 3 year deal instead of 4 basically?

Is it really possible that Morey didn't know that?

    WTF?!?!

This does not seem to be Morey or the Rockets fault. Who's to blame here?

Title is so misleading, when someone signs they actually sign, should have been Nene and Rockets agree to 4/15M

He did not lose much time since free agency started. It's good that the Rockets were quick to get the paperwork processed. It would've looked bad had they taken their sweet time.

The only players who have signed so far are big names and guys who were gonna get signed before someone like NeNe.

The 4th year not allowed to a 38 year old threw him off

    Look,

On the cool this is some embarrassing BJ Armstrong, not knowin the CBA type ish.

Can this actually be blunder #2 for Daryl Morey. First one being the Uthaoff trade by not knowin he cannot be aggregated with any other contract?!?!

I think this isnt Daryl's first mistake of the new CBA. Put down the donuts and pick up the CBA MORELYYYY. Lull SEE!

I was just adding to Bobby Marks for completeness. Bobby said it's structured for 3yrs because he can't have a 4th. He probably worded it that way for Twitter brevity. I doubt the math of a 4th year would add much if any to the total Marks quotes, but I just wanted to say the over-38 rule does still allow years after 38, for future reference.

Morey surely knows, because it's one of the new changes to the CBA. I'm thinking Nene's agent got confused and leaked something wrong before midnight

Morey also knows he can't have an agreement before midnight. This news was at 11:20, so something was always fishy to me wrt this thread.
