Zhou hurt his finger pretty badly in the last couple games, he was questionable for the last game (but played with his fingers wrapped.) not sure if that effect his status for summer league. His number in the regular season actually went backwards this year. that's not great, but might also be simply to show that he had nothing left to proof in the regular season (his team dominated anyway.) and simply saved for the playoffs. obviously sweeping the finals is pretty convincing. But yeah, he has nothing left to proof in China, he needs to get in the D-league fast. The question on him is how much he can adjust to the higher physicality, because from a raw skill / ability point of view there's a ton to like about him, he's super long and read blocks well, he's pretty quick for that size and he has touch and ball skills in general. it seems to be he could potentially be something like a small ball 5 that would kill in the MDA system because he can both run and hit 3s. My thing with him aside from the potential physicality issue is that he box out horribly and relies almost entirely on length for rebounds. this year he seem to have cut back on another favorite pet bullshit he did of just tipping the rebound to a teammate (often ending up in the other team grabbing it instead. ) and actually tries harder to come down with it, but I need to look back more into this games to see if the box out issue improved.
There's a fluidity about his athleticism that makes me question whether or not he can make it in the NBA. Or more specific a lack of fluidity. He's like almost there, but he still has that 10%-20% of his athleticism that makes him seem to tall and skinny and not fluid enough. Giannis and KD have near similar body frames, and are amazing because of the fact that with those body frames they are perfectly fluid. They run like guys 6-12 inches shorter.
Yeah but Zhou's also 3-4 inches taller than those two, and really not being as good as those two isn't really saying much other than "he's probably not going to be a super star" and that's not exactly where we're looking at anyway with Zhou. And of course, he could do this I like his body control aspect a lot, he basically never get out of balanced to block shots, so he sometimes can get multiple blocks or grab his own blocks. also that he can drive both ways pretty well. But of course, the general problem is that he needs to at least hold his own a bit in the paint, and it's to be seen how he adjust to a higher of athleticism in general.
Nice to see him in Houston. I hope he will play in the summer league and the D-League in the next season.
Wonder if he will crack the rotation come fall, why is he not on the summer League team anyone answer?
