http://www.gq.com/story/kevin-mchale-celtics-james-harden-2017-interview Sorry if this was already previously posted. I thought there was some interesting information here and that the article was worth sharing.
phew, good thing there are no longer any LOF's here. They'd have a fit, and a reason proving the Numbers Aren't Clear that Bev should have started. McHale had to move Lin to bench, 'cause Harden. Not so transparent back-handed compliment to MDA. So he's saying not having Bev be PG running PnRs was genius? McHale makes it sound like MDA agrees that Harden should play a traditional SG role, but capitulated to Harden's wishes so he could get the job. Uh, maybe he just saw something in Harden you didn't see, Kevin. You ever think of that. Are you trying to tell us you didn't actually want Howard running PnR with Harden. You wanted Beverley to do that with Harden playing EGo's role on this team? And GQ misspells Beverley's name. So sigh....
Actually, McFail's style used to take a lot out of Harden. Everyone and their grandma knew Harden would get the ball eventually. McFail would have Bev bring the ball up and then harden have to fight for position at the 3 point line to get the ball. He would be shoved, hugged, tugged etc and had to hold off defenders just to get a hold of the F'in ball. You've already lost several seconds in the shot clock doing that. Mike AntoniO >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Kevin McFail
Further down in the article is McHale's comments about Dwight: Mike D’Antoni has done a great job and I have him as Coach of the Year. One of my biggest fights with Dwight Howard was getting him out of the frontcourt, trying to get him in the backcourt running High PnR, get him rolling, and we’ll throw it to you. When Dwight is on the move rolling, he’s unguardable. You can’t stop him with a head of steam, but he wanted the ball in the frontcourt with his back to the basket, a traditional center spot, so we went round-and-round. D’Antoni just said the hell with that, let him go. We’ll roll with Capela, literally. It was genius.
It's sad to think that McHale was so incompetent as a coach that he couldn't even make the adjustment that the HOU fans desperelty asked for. All he needed to do is tell BEV to run and Harden to make plays! But no, he made everything so dam complicated and annoying with his non adjustment ass. So glad he's out as HC
He's being very complimentary to MDA. Saying he's coach of the year. Saying giving the ball to James and letting Pat run was genius. I see nothing for people to get upset about. McHale still got 56 wins and the western conference finals out of the dysfunctional pair of Harden and Howard. But, it's all in the past now and the team is now finally built for Moreyball. So the future looks bright. Let's hope we can get back to the conference finals again.
I mean, she has sex with him so her decision making credibility was ruined long before she opened her twitter mouth.
Spoiler I, too, am tired of hearing Kevin McHale talk (about Harden/Rockets). I mean, has someone gotten Chris Finch's thoughts yet? Thankfully, that "era" feels like a lifetime ago & everyone minus Kevin McHale has moved on.
Also got to do with the others like BJ Brewerstaff and Finchy finding themselves some kind of coaching gig. McFail still remains unemployed as a coach and it looks like no teams want his incompetent ass as coach. So he has nothing left to do but try to stay relevant by taking passive aggressive jabs at the Rockets, Mike AntoniO and Jim harden
I remember so many times where we would get stuck with Harden wrestling with someone for like 15 seconds a possession while Beverley picks up the dribble and tries to get him the ball. It was so frustrating.
