Well I'd like to start out the season 5-1 and end up with at least 11 wins given the schedule.

    11-5 or 12-4. I'm serious.

Sort of surprised that Bengals @ Packers beat out Texans @ New England for the 3pm national game of the week.... but then again, the Texans QB situation probably took them out of the running.

They still have had only 1 nationally televised 3pm game in their 15 year history (Texans @ Broncos in 2012).

Good luck getting 12 wins with NO QB.

I don't think Texans fans understand the magnitude of this team not having a legit QB on the roster. This is the most important position on the field.

Until we get a QB I am not going to make any predictions about our record.

I like to see the Texans start the season on the road

In the last 9 seasons, they've open the season at home 8 times.

I think Savage will be the starter and will be okay - it could get very interesting but this is a more difficult schedule than it looks.
It's got that 9-7 feel about it. Unless Savage can rise to about mid pack among the QB's.

On paper that is one hard ****ing schedule. 5-11 or 6-10 seems really likely.

I could see someone "feeling" like it's going to be 9-7, but that's more emotion than logic. With Watt back to finally pair with Clowney, the defense should be absolutely sick and the schedule doesn't have many teams on it that should be all that good.

LOL, there are 5 or 6 wins within the division alone and the Texans get to play the Bengals, Niners, Browns, and Rams.

Bengals are likely a win but that team can easily bounce back from a bad season. They are the definition of Jekyll and Hyde. I also don't think the AFC will be the dumpster fire that it has been and give the Texans 6 wins. the Texanscan easily have a let down game against one of 9ers, Rams or Browns. I'm thinking 8-8 but 5-11 would not surprise me

I hope so - however, the secondary now has some big question marks with two departures and some cohesion is likely lost. I like Kevin Johnson but he has missed a lot of time and will need to work back into it and hopefully he is not one of those injury prone guys.
And John Simon will be missed more than some realize - he was a workhorse.
JJ will likely not be the JJ of old - I see him in more of a traditional role but still be very good.
Not trying to be contrary - just realistic.

Looks like they will start the season 1-2. But finish 9-7 again

I'm not worried about losing the 4th string CB and while Demps was a key loss, I have some faith in KJ Dillon and Dre Hal.

Simon is a bit of a loss, but it's at one of the deepest spots on the team given that Clowney and Mercilus will be playing most of the snaps at OLB.

I get trying to stay grounded, but of all the things I worry about, the defense is pretty far down the list. Also, we've yet to see what happens in the draft.

Not a scary schedule. 9-7 would be worst case. Savage can manage a better season than Os and the defense shouldn't regress.

I hear ya on that one.
We seriously MUST get a RT or this offense will will a sitting duck again.
Doesn't matter how good your running back is if he can't run it to the right.
And we need a better option at RB#2 as well - the bunch we have behind Miller now is uninspiring and you dare not risk running him into the ground because he is your only real option.
Here's hoping Savage can be at least median among starting QB's.
I am not concerned about the receiving corp - I think Fuller, Miller, Strong and Williams will be better and do the job.
