Carmelo and La La Anthony are separated ... TMZ has learned.

Sources close to the couple tell us the actress and NBA superstar are now living separately. La La moved out of the family home last week and has her own place in NYC now.

We're told the couple's had ups and downs in the past, but the current NBA season has been extremely stressful on the marriage for several months. Carmelo's been plagued by trade talks ... with the Knicks looking to move him to another team.

Our sources say the split is still amicable. They were together just this past weekend at their 10-year-old son Kiyan's basketball game.

We're told La La and Carmelo have NO plans to uproot Kiyan from his friends and school in NY.

Problem is ... it seems likely Carmelo will have to leave town, because just last week Knicks President Phil Jackson said it was time for him to go.

Neither is talking divorce yet, just separation. The couple got married in 2010.​

 

I can't see anybody wanting to take that huge contract except like the Kings or Magic. If Phil can't find a team to trade him to then I guess his best option would be to buy him out and I wouldn't mind taking a flyer on him tbh even though like almost all of ClutchFans dislikes him.

Anytime you & your sig other split, it sucks! I don't care who you are. I don't think they had any kids, so he's not tied to a team in the metro area because of her. Since PJ has lambasted him, it's probable he'll play elsewhere next season. Be prepared for the "Melo to Houston" threads. UUGGHH!

Carmelo is one of the greatest talents the basketball world has ever seen. He led Syracuse to a national championship as a freshman, 10 time NBA all-star, all NBA team 6 times, led the Nuggets to 2 division titles and a conference finals, 4 straight Olympic appearances (record) with 1 bronze and 3 gold medals, 3x USA basketball player of the year... I could go on but it's not necessary.

I'm not sure why Melo gets so much hate -- he has had to deal with George Karl and Phil My Jackson who are the primary reasons he hasn't made an NBA final. The recent attacks from Karl and Jackson are completely inappropriate and Anthony has taken the high road and kept quiet. I understand the criticisms of his shot selection and defense, but the blind hate is silly.
