Looks like this rehab will be an ongoing thing. Thankfully, looks like we have the depth to handle McHugh being out for an extended period. Just need one of Fiers or Peacock to step up. And some of the younger guys will get a shot if they don't step up, i.e., Martes, Whitley, Paulino. Wouldn't be surprised to see Hinch give Devo some shots at SP as well.

790 reported he complained about soreness before leaving the game.

Fiers isn't too far a dropoff. Bats need to get going.

Or probably next year either. 2019 is probably the earliest given that he hasn't pitched above rookie ball yet.

Whitley has done nothing yet a lot of fans are discussing him more than Martes and Perez.

Fiers can slide in and give us a proven MLB starter that can keep us in games, so I don't think this hurts too bad. We kept Fiers on board for this exact reason.

But, now we have no proven 6th starter. I have zero faith in Peacock to regularly keep us in games if he is forced into the rotation. So if any of the current 5 go down for an extended time it could be really bad. Hopefully Martes or Paulino can come in and make an impact this season.

Not sure there is a proven 7th starter out there I'd rather have than Martes or Devenski unless the Dodgers again have a couple guys "hurt" that mysteriously heal when one of the top 5 starters gets hurt.

No chance we look at Feliz as a starter ever again?

He'll get spot starts here and there if they don't want to use the AAA shuttle. If he/the team is smart they'll have him work on the changeup in mop-up innings but if he's in a high-leverage scenario he should be going straight fastball/slider. Hopefully he's working on the changeup in practice too.

So at this point we can safely say that McHugh should be viewed as potential reinforcement later in the season and not counted on as a potential playoff starter.

If he is a potential reinforcement, then he is also a potential playoff starter. :)

I sure hope he's able to come back this yr and be effective.

He's won some big games for us in Aug/Sept.

McHugh is 43-26 as an Astro with a 3.71 era. Nearly a strikeout per inning. He's an infusion whether we want to like it or not.

Assuming he plays this year. Hopefully he does. Getting him would be like trading for that middle of the rotation guy without actually giving up anything. I am not familiar with this "dead arm" injury. What is it and what is the prognosis long term? Could he miss a whole season? Is it one of those mystery injuries that heal when it heals if it heals kind of thing or is this some injury that is well known and 90-120 days is the norm?

Not "dead arm". Elbow impingement (ie: tennis elbow)
