By releasing Romo when he did, Jerry did him a huge favor because had he been released earlier, Romo would have been on the hook to repay $5M in bonus money he'd been given. Romo says he’s committed to broadcasting and is done playing, but many players have said they were done only to get the itch to play again. Romo can, and he doesn’t need the Cowboys’ permission now. 100% wrong. If players have guaranteed money left on their deal when they RETIRE, they're obligated to pay back whatever prorated amount is left on the deal. No player ever owes money if they're released, regardless of timing. Jones did do him a solid; by releasing him, not can Romo keep the money (which was likely given to him ages ago) but if he does want to play again, he'd be a free agent. That was the favor.
If New England made a proposal to a team desperate for a quarterback in the draft, such as us, would we bite? Belichick might just try to get some big named defensive players for Jimmy G and a draft pick. He won't let him go easily, so who would we give up, if that situation arose if we miss out on the guy we want in the draft in round 1?
F giving up existing commodities, but if NE is dangling Jimmy G for draft capital, you bet your ass we jump on that if it's not a bullshit ask. We are the golden standard for "if they only had a QB". Taking a chance on Jimmy is exactly the type of deal a team like the Texans has to do. Our window will close, and we need a QB.
Not for free. They'd probably get a 3rd round pick for him and they could also franchise him if they think Brady is on the verge of retirement.
They'd be crazy to give him away for simply a 3rd round pick. He won't go that easy. They will want much more.

Oh, OK. It wouldn't surprise me if they tried to make a trade for him with Cleveland and asked for their 1st round pick and much more, then turned around and drafted one of the quarterbacks we want. That would sicken me.
I think it's more likely the browns land Jimmy than we do, but they aren't as close to winning as we are, and teams like us can really go for broke when they need to. See: Minnesota Bradford deal
I dunno though, while it's true that Minnesota had a similar QB situation the the Texans, I don't know that making Sam Bradford their franchise QB is really going to end up being a great idea. Sure it's better than what they had, but I don't think they are going anywhere with him. In the end, they are still pretty much where we are at right now needing to draft a QB for the future despite the bad QB class.
The Pats are not getting 2 #1s for Jimmy G. The Pats will franchise him next season instead of just letting him walk........then try to trade him. They will hold on to him as long as possible.
I feel the same, but the fact of the matter is they felt that they had a real chance to win a super bowl with Bradford and a healthy roster around him. If O'Brien feels the same way with Jimmy where his job is on the line, you never know. We have no reason to think it'll happen, but if we really are a QB away this year, it's really our only option.
Of course, hindsight is 20/20, but it would have been nice if the Texans traded their 1st round pick for Jimmy G when the Patriots were looking to nab a first rounder for him. Patriots are more likely to get a better package from the Browns, so Texans seem to be out of the running. Also, no way the Patriots franchise him...they're better off trading him for a draft pick given the fact that Brady is going to be playing for 3-5 more years.
