Now that we can finally move on from Tony Romo... why shouldn't the Texans try to trade for Phillip Rivers? Wasn't he not happy with the move to LA? What do you y'all think it would take?
If they were going to make a run at trading for someone, why not Drew Brees. The Saints aren't going anywhere soon and it's time for them to rebuild. It wouldn't be cheap on the draft pick front but he's still playing at a very high level and makes us better than had we signed Romo. Not gonna happen but it would be a lot cooler if it did.
there is zero chance Chargers trade Rivers for anything less than 2 first round picks. Which we wont do
If you're looking for a trade partner for a veteran QB, it needs to be a team that has a young QB on the roster that they believe is the future.
I would love to know how much the Chargers are asking for Rivers. You've got to do your research before you can make a decision on the best path to take... Do you think that Rick Smith has contacted any GMs at all to find out the asking price for a solid starting QB? I highly doubt it. #LOSER I think that Rick would be blown away if he saw the level of effort that Morey puts into being a GM.
The Texans would've pounced on Romo had he come available; last year, they pounced on Osweiler. They've signed Fitzpatrick and Hoyer and traded for Mallett. You can question the success of those moves - but the Texans have been anything but passive when it comes to finding a QB. So, yeah - almost certain that they're making calls.
The Chargers are that team that could go from 5-11 to 11-5. They had a bunch of injuries and lost a bunch of close games. Top 10 offense plus a young defense. I doubt Rivers is on the market.
I disagree... Rick Smith seems to me like a reactionary GM, not a proactive GM like Morey. He just does what he needs to do to save his job when public sentiment forces him to. I'm pretty sure if you called Rick Smith right now, he would have no idea what the Chargers want for Rivers.
There's nothing proactive about their current situation; it is 100% reactionary with an angry/impatient public screaming for him/the team to find a QB; IOW - it's the exact scenario in which you claim Rick Smith operates..... So, yeah- I would wager he's turning over every rock he can right now....
