And they could still drop to 7th. The Grizzlies have played much better ball since they officially shut Portions down for the season.

Even if he doesn't win it this season, I feel like this season isn't necessarily the BEST chance of his career. He will continue to improve his assist numbers in the future due to several factors:
    • More comfort with the system
    • Cutting down on turnovers and turning them into assists
    • Possibly acquiring players that knock down the open shot instead of bricking them
    • Capela finishing better at the rim as he develops
Opposing players are paying attention to Harden's generosity and the proven success of D'Antoni's system in the regular season (despite recent struggles). I predict Houston to be a great free agent destination in the upcoming years.

If averaging a triple double is THAT important, he can find a way to get a few more per game without making his teammates defer to him.

Per the Elias Sports Bureau, no other player in NBA history has produced a 40-point triple-double on back-to-back nights prior to James Harden this weekend. He had 40 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists in the Rockets' win at Denver Saturday, just one night after going for 41, 14 and 11 in a game at New Orleans.

James Harden has 7 40-point triple-doubles this season. The 7 is the most in a season in NBA history.

    BOOOOM BABY BOOM

Harden has the quality when it comes to triple doubles, and Westbrook has the quantity. I think most people would prefer quality over quantity.

Ron Artest, AKA Mr. Flagrant. ;)

On that note, isn't it kind of interesting that Harden never really gets into any altercations/fights with anyone? Nobody wants a part of that voluptuous Beard, probably? Ya know...

From all the pods I've listened to from ESPN since that Washington Post straw poll, there has yet to be a single ESPN participant that has said they voted Harden #1:rolleyes:

To be fair Westbrook hasn't really been a media darling historically or high key.

That said, as I've said many times, Westbrook's triple double exists because he has so little talent around him. Give him more talent and he doesn't have a triple double and he's not in the conversation.... any more so than he was the last 3/4 years. Westbrook didn't get any better this year. Frankly all he's done is incredibly increase his usage while "stealing" rebounds from his bigs.

I do t say that lightly. It's amazing what he's doing. Just pointing out what it is. If you as a voter are going to value winning in any way you can't vote Westbrook first. If you do so you should have voted AD first a few years ago when he was absolutely dominant as a single player that willed his team to the 8th seed.

The Harden narrative is easy. Crazy incredible stats. Outside of Westbrook the craziest pure stats line we've seen in ages. Even with Westbrook still amazing in many ways - the 40 point triple doubles, the 50/15/15, etc. much improved defensively. Taking on a whole new position. A 69% winning percentage - a likely high 50's win team. No other all stars or past all stars. In a loaded and stacked western conference and franklynleague overall. Of all the above things... Westbrook has the stats... barely.

James Harden has 19 triple-doubles this season. That's 15 behind Russell Westbrook for the NBA lead.

However, Westbrook and Harden rank 1-2 in most triple-doubles over the last 40 seasons.

They just want to shut their minds off to the truth, and instead believe their alternative facts.

The winning factor hasn't really been settled yet. We don't know where the Thunder will finish. They still have a shot at winning their division. And if they do wind up 4th and Westbrook averages a triple double, I don't see how he doesn't win the MVP. If they wind up 6th or 7th, that's when it becomes a tossup between him and James(assuming the Rockets hold onto the 3rd seed).
