Why are there no videos of Russell Westbrook's stat padding?

    No disrespect to Westbrook. Hell of a player and one of the best today.

    But why are there no videos of his stat-padding?

    I hear everywhere that his teammates intentionally move out of the way to give him uncontested rebounds. If there was a 10 minute video montage of all the rebounds he gets with that method (ala the Harden "defense" highlight video), that will go viral and possibly make him lose credibility in the MVP discussion.

    If Harden did this, he would easily obtain the ~+3 rebounds needed to average a triple double, but team rebounding (an important factor in winning games) would take a big hit. I recall Bull or Craig mentioning that Denver is the best rebounding team as of late, but none of their players average double digits in rebounds because they all contribute on the glass.

    Am I overthinking the possible impact of this?

    Westbrook leads the league in uncontested rebounds. Stat-padding stat. His contested defensive rebounding is actually worse than Harden iirc. But the triple doubles!!!!

    Harden comes in second for uncontested rebounds. I see the thick skulls on clutchfans are still taking Westbrooks "stat padding" seriously while its a joke everywhere else. You guys are delusional

    Westbrook is number one and harden is number two in uncontested rebounds.

    I recall hearing that our team wants Harden to grab the rebound that way he automatically had the ball in his hands to survey the defense in transition. Rather than wait for a pass from the big. This also helps the transition game as everyone is already on an outlet route.

    Now I'm sure some of this is the same case for Westbrook and I can't fault him for that.

    What I fault him for is the insane amount of missed free throw rebounds he has, which as a pg he has no place to be grabbing them. I also fault him for snatcging rebounds from teammates which I notice he does pretty often.

    Edit: ironically what I had seen and recalled off of memory was filtered to not include centers because they should be the clear leaders. Ironically, I didn't realize Westbrook lead all centers as well lol.

    Harden is not number 2 in uncontested rebounds, but Westbrook is a clear number 1. Get your facts right.

    Also, this reddit post kind of sums it up:


    He doesn't contest shots. It's stunning, really. So, yes, it's stat-padding that hurts the team. Meanwhile, Harden contests 8.2 shots. It is clear Westbrook is gunning for triple doubles, and the numbers/tape prove it. Maybe they would have a better record if Westbrook, well, cared to guard his guy.

    BigMaloe brings up a good point, but... Harden is stockier and bigger. He is responsible for defending the opposing 4 frequently. It shouldn't come as a surprise that he is able to box out and get uncontested rebounds near the key.

    Besides, there are plenty of games where Capela or PatBev have more rebounds than the rest of the team.

    I don't think this is as intentional or isolated as it is for Westbrook.

    Free Throw Rebounds are the easiest in basketball. Pretty ingenius how they get Westbrook extra rebounds off free throws.
