Anyone else as excited about this Big Bang spin-off as I am? New series coming about nine year old Sheldon Cooper attending high school in East Texas. Prepare for backwoods stereotypes. I'm ready, as I've lived in the Northeast for almost fifteen years, and I know what people think of us.
First, Interested. Second, I see this as possibly quite funny. They have the right elements from the get go, which is to say that they have several polar opposites already built in ( mother - son ) ( son - kids ) ( son - Texas ). They just need a solid cast to build on it.
So is this sort of like if they made a show where Steve Urkel was the primary POV character, rather than the crowd-pleasing funny neighbor? I've only watch a few episodes of Big Bang Theory. I found the Sheldon character kind of annoying.
Not sure about this spin off, the idiosyncrasies of his character could be overplayed and get repetitive to watch.
The Big Bang Theory is in strong contention for least funny comedy program in the history of television.
I agree it is right up there with. Seinfeld Cheers Mash As one of the all time greatest comedy shows. DD
Big Bang Theory is the Donatas Motiejunas of network television......overrated, and not worth the hype.
I like Big Bang just fine. But it's nowhere near the vicinity of Seinfeld in my estimation. The characters, the writing...none of it is close to Seinfeld.
Yeah, Seinfeld is still great and I don't think Big Bang is close, I'll watch it though. On a side note Curb Your Enthusiasm is finally doing another season.. Obviously not Seinfeld but I enjoy it it.
I agree too that Big Bang is probably underrated for the truths that it has hit upon about scientists and engineers. and that it belong with the upper tier of comedy sitcoms. Nobody had really done that before outside of Gary Larson whose angle was very different. It's legit funny. Seinfeld probably hit on the biggest truth and that is that we are all just BS'ing our way through life.
Is this going to follow the same formula of saying some long, complicated scientific word followed by laugh track so the viewer who didn't understand the word knows when to laugh?
i never quite got into it. It just seemed excessively forced Don't forget the other formula of saying something completely unfunny, but because they reference some science factoid it is somehow "smart" comedy.
BB is a good show, I like the older ones better, just as in any show like this the characters hit a peak and then they go into a direction that's different, some work and some don't. I still like watching though, the funniest IMO were the ones when Penny was new and everyone tried to hit on her in their own awkward way
