Seems like you have issues following along too, but that's all right, anything to prevent yourself from having to explain how you think Alex Smith or Brock Osweiler is better than Taylor.

I already explained that to you.....and then you made an ass out of yourself by citing a bunk ESPN stat that led you to try and make a case that Tyrod Taylor was a top 10 QB.

It wasn't that long ago, you really should remember it still.

I mean, you don't even have to take my word for it, the fact that the Bills are looking to dump him instead of keeping him around at the 20th lowest cap hit among QB's shows that they have no faith that he's even a top 20 QB in the league. They are tired of having a RB running the Wildcat, they want a real QB moving forward.

and the Texans are looking to dump Osweiler too, and there's no chance they pick up his option after next season unless he becomes a different QB. Alex Smith's position in KC is also tenuous. The idea that you can use front office decision making as an indicator which QB is better is moronic. By your logic, since the Bills drafted Cardale Jones, does that make him a legit QB prospect? I mean, the Bills drafted him right? They clearly know QB evaluation.

The numbers say that Tyrod Taylor isn't a top 20 QB, the Bills actions say that he's not a top 20 QB, you think he's a top 10 QB.....

I mean, wow. Why are you still arguing this, haven't you been embarrassed enough? Just take the L and move on.

Sadly, that's the most valid argument in his favor thus far.

It isn't, Bobby; teams almost never offer guaranteed SALARIES across multiple years; they spread guaranteed BONUS money across multiple years - but that's solely for cap management purposes.

This has NOTHING to do with their cap.

When he signed his deal, it was initially structured like most deals: he was guaranteed a signing bonus + first-year salary (for 2016). Taylor also had a built-in roster bonus that was guaranteed. Altogether, at the time he signed the deal, he was paid/guaranteed $9.5MM.

Yes - his cap hit is $15.9MM; the check they have to write him in 16 days, however, is for $30.75MM. Do you understand that $15.9MM does not = $30.75MM? That one of those numbers is significantly more than the other one?

This isn't about cap hits so please stop mentioning the cap.

It would be wrong; as I mentioned, he already received his signing bonus (~$3.4MM) as well as a roster bonus ($3.5MM) before last season when he signed this deal. So, sure - call it a "signing bonus" - it underscores how much you don't understand the situation.

His up front guaranteed money was $9.5MM (signing bonus + roster bonus + '16 salary) - all paid. Now, because of they way the Bills structured the deal, they're faced with having to give him *another* $30.75MM guaranteed. Taylor is set to be paid more in guarantees ($40.25MM) than Brock Osweiler ($37MM).

So when you make the claim the Bills are trying to get rid of him 1) that's not true; b) it has nothing to do with performance or the cap.

If he was *just* costing them the $15.9MM in cap space, and all his guaranteed money had been paid at the front of the contract, they'd (likely) be OK keeping him.

The only thing that matters in the NFL is cap hit, you are fooling yourself if you think differently. You might as well give this one up, teams guarantee tons of money to QB's all the time be it salary or signing bonus. There is no practical difference between them guaranteeing salary right now and them signing a new deal with that money as a signing bonus. Choosing to keep him is effectively signing a new deal the way it is structured.....and they don't want to do that because he's an awful QB.

A 31 million dollar guarantee for a QB is pretty small actually. If they thought he was worth a damn, they'd jump on that deal in a heartbeat.

So your contention is that the $30.75MM check they have to give him is ancillary and meaningless; that their concern is his cap hit, which ranks 20th among NFL QBs? They think *that's* the problem? OK.

As I explained, it's $40.25MM; throw around $31MM all you want; it is not the correct figure. He received $9.5MM in August and is now set to receive another $30.75MM less than seven months later. $40.25MM

And as you helpfully detailed, it is significantly more guaranteed money than even the great NFL QBs generally get:
Whatever we might think of Tyrod Taylor, I certain we can agree that he is not $7MM better than Matt Ryan or Aaron Rodgers.

Sure; if he was objectively great, they might be apt to swallow it. But he's not. The point is, they're trying to get out of it because it's a bad contract with way too much guaranteed money; it's not because he's "terrible" or "awful." I'd even be OK with he's not "$40.25MM guaranteed good" - but, as we can see, few teams think QBs are that good.

What would be the difference between writing that check as guaranteed salary vs writing that check as a signing bonus if it were a new contract?

When you talk about those other QB's you're talking about contracts they signed years ago, not contracts signed today. Andrew Luck signed a deal last year with 87 million worth of practical guarantees. That's the kinds of numbers we're seeing today.

Again, NFL teams would not balk at guaranteeing 2 years at a below average cap hit for a QB they considered good......if they actually got a QB that was good they'd have to cut that check anyway.

Tyrod Taylor is hot garbage as a QB and that's why they are struggling with the decision to keep him around 2 more years......much like how the Texans wouldn't keep Osweiler around for 2 more years at his level of performance thus far. It's actually kind of crazy that we have Tyrod Taylor apologists.

Cool; let's talk about Andrew Luck. His 2017 deal locks into place two days after Taylor's. Grand total? $13MM ($7MM + $6MM roster bonus). The Bills owe Taylor $30.75MM. FYI, Luck >>> Taylor. More FYI: $30.75MM >>> $13MM.

Again, what you're advocating by continually, and erroneously, mentioning the cap hit is that the Bills don't care about writing a $30.75MM check; what they care about is having the 20th-highest cap hit for their QB in 2017. Think about that...

It is an objectively stupid position to take.

This is just another example of you being intellectually dishonest. You are talking about one portion of the 87 million dollars worth of guarantees that Andrew Luck had in his contract and you are comparing it to the lump payment in Tyrod Taylor's when they accept the final 2 years of his deal. The contracts are just structured differently

    87 million >>>>>> 30.75 million

More importantly Tyrod Taylor only had 9.5 mil worth of guarantees at signing so it was really

    87 million >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> 9.5 million

The 31 mil lump sum in the middle is effectively a new contract. They set his deal up where he was set to make VERY little in the first year so they could get a feel for him and be able to cut him at any time before the real deal was set to hit. The real deal was a below average QB contract and now that they are effectively faced with the decision to sign (keep) Taylor to a below average QB contract, they are thinking that he's not worth it. They didn't mind him for 9 million on a one year deal, but 15-16 million dollars for at least 2 years? Not worth it.

Anyway, you've made it clear that you have no intention of honestly discussing this, so there's no reason to continue. Fee free to keep being a Tyrod Taylor apologist, we'll see where it gets you.

Tyrod is pretty much incapable of bringing his team back, most of the time. He's pretty much an extra running threat in a running offense

I have Ignore feature on certain poster. And just reading the responses to Ignored poster is LMAO-worthy.

That ANYONE would try to REPEATEDLY argue FOR 150% OBSERVABLY proven TERRIBLE players, and REPEATEDLY try to bash AGAINST DECENT/GOOD players ... ?? For YEARS, even with HARD EVIDENCE there.

And then forget player stats, trying to argue against hard QUANTIFIED SALARY #'s, where the SMALLER # is always BETTER than the BIGGER # REGARDLESS of talent level. Meaning 1+1 DOES NOT equal 2 to that person.... Goodness. Thank you Clutch, for beefing up the "Iggy" feature to keep from being subjected to that.
