I am assuming the reason Capela isn't getting minutes is he is still trying to get back into shape. Once he does I think the rotation should be.

Capela/Nene/Harrell (only for small ball or Nene rest)
    Anderson/Harrell
    Ariza/Dekker
Harden - Bev - Gordon roation

Brewer only due to someone needing serious rest or due to injury. Really wish we had Beasley in this situation.

Harrell is a PF and he lacks paint defensive awareness.

Putting Harrell at center leaves us to get clobbered by a large front court. Putting Harrell along side one of our centers makes us at least competent to compete.

    This should be the rotation:

Beard - Splash - Reggie Williams
    Bev - Gabe York
Ariza - Aaron Gordon - Archie Goodwin
    Ryno - Smoove - Wiltjer
Nerlens Noel - Nene - Trez

No way Harrell should be on the court together with Capela or Nene. And I don't really even have to argue why, because it simply will not happen this year with MDA as coach.

So, Dekker remains as Anderson's primary backup, as well as Ariza's.

and fwiw: Brewer only got 7 minutes last night.

    Rubio/Rubio/Rubio
    Rubio/harden/Rubio
    Rubio/Rubio/rubio/rubio
    Rubio/Rubio
    Rubio Rubio/Rubio

We would have kind of a logjam at small forward but I'm sure we could send 1 Rubio to the D league or maybe trade 2 rubios for another Rubio? In the mean time Rubio could have spot minutes in when Rubio and Rubio are resting or injured at power forward. Teams wouldn't be able to concentrate on Rubio or harden with Rubio, rubio and Rubio out there sharing the ball.

I don't know why we don't play nene for PF. He has much more outside game than Capella and Harrell.

This team would have so few points but so many assists, because sharing is caring.

Harrell needs to play more. He's too good finishing around the basket to only play a handful of minutes a night. We could really use a defensive center who can shoot from range that Harrell can pair up with.

I'm kind of down on Capella. He blocks some shots and he can catch lobs. What else?

Could we trade harden for Rubio and Rubio and Lin?

first, Capela is only getting 17-25mpg. Isn't "block some shot and catch lobs" worth that time, too? Are you saying play him less? Or are you suggesting Harrell get PF minutes or Nene get no minutes. The one brief stretch of 30+ mpg in mid-late Nov for Capela were MDA experimenting with his stamina (we read quotes of that). And he deserved getting that look. It led right into the start of the win streak, where he went back down to his 17-25mpg until the injury.

And to answer your question quoted, my guess is MDA at looks at his mere threat of lob, and whether that gets the D moving more than Harrell doing the same thing. From MDA perspective, it's more than just "Capela can catch lobs", it's also about creating space for threes or Harden drives, when D takes away the lob.

I'm not denying Harrell's attributes. He is a good finisher, and has a knack for offensive rebounds ... and he and Dekker have a thing. They both deserve the minutes they are getting on this team. I think Nene is the one cutting into Harrell's minutes though, and not Capela's 17-25mpg. Something has to give, as I don't want 2 of the 3 on the court together ... at least so far this year.

I think you do. Harrell is a power forward. He shoots 3's better than Brewer. How does he help the match up vs big teams that kill us? The only argument against not having him there is that he won't open the paint enough because he isn't a known 3 point shooter.

Think of Harrell as Amare. Amare was a natural PF but not in the MDA system. Harrell could certainly play PF in this system but would be most efficient rolling hard to basket after setting a pick.

    Much better rebounder than Harrell.
