Right now he's second in PER and real plus-minus. CP3 is first in plus-minus and ninth in PER; WB is first in PER and 7th in plus-minus; Harden is 3rd in PER and 8th in plus-minus.

Purely based on combined ranking of these two most popular all-in-one advanced stats, he's arguably the best player right now in the NBA.

Those saying he's not up there till he develops a 3 >> that's an uninformed decision.

Developing a better 3pt shot would help him of course. However, right now he is so good that not having a 3pt shot is not affecting his ability to impact the game like a superstar. When the Knicks packed the paint, he kept moving, attacking, slashing, he was not just standing at the 3pt line miserable about not being able to get through a packed paint. On top of that he defends, he passes, he scores, he blocks 2 a game and he steals 2 a game.

Can you understand just how insane it is? Take out his scoring totally, assume he's not good at scoring at all not just 3pters. Let's say he's just getting:

    9.1 rebounds
    Hitting 78% of 7.7 FTA's
    5.8 assists to 2.9 TO's (a hair away from 2 to 1 ration as a 6'11 guy)
    2 steals
    2 blocks
Very good defense, especially individual and help defense

JUST THAT. JUST THAT brought Draymond Green all the hype and made him a key piece of the best regular season team ever. I would drop $20m on him just for THOSE qualities alone even if he were averaging 8-10 ppg and could only dunk.

BUT he's averaging 24 points on 54% shooting from the floor.

There is literally nothing else wrong with his game except for the fact that he hits 29% of 2.4 3PA. It's ridiculous at this point to insist that if he doesn't improve his 3pt shot he can't be considered a superstar. He is putting up elite production in virtually every area of basketball. If he were hitting 36% of his shots, then he is better than Lebron James at the same age. I think he is on his way to being an all time great and it's not so much the numbers as much as the few interviews of him I watched where he seems to be self-critical and willing to listen and capable of converting that knowledge to improvements in his game.

I think the Bucks make the ECF if Middleton has 20-30 games to get into shape.

The Bucks need to dump Jason Kidd as a coach. It feels like McHale's old offense where everyone stands around while a single player (usually Giannis but occasionally Jabari Parker) is stuck playing ISO ball.

Give both of them a real offensive scheme and Giannis will put up triple doubles and Jabari Parker would probably benefit as well. The Bucks have too much talent to only have a .500 record (especially in the East).

Funny, Jason Kidd the player was all about distributing the ball.

Top 3 player in the NBA today. Everything else is uninformed nonsense. He is better than one-way players like Curry and Harden. He is a much better playmaker than Kawhi or Davis. He is way more efficient than volume shooters like Westbrook or DeRozan. The guy is a volume shooter with a 61% TS, that's Harden level efficiency.

He has more points than scorers like Irving, George or Hayward, more rebounds than centres like Noah, Adams, Gasol, Capela, more assists than PGs like Curry and Walker, more blocks than rim-protectors like Jordan or Ibaka, more steals than defensive specialists like Allen and Sefolosha. Also:

    - 2nd in PER, 2nd in RPM, ie leads NBA in advanced metrics.
    - Only player in NBA history to average more than 22pts, 8reb, 5as, 2bl, 2st.
    - 4th player in NBA history to average 2 blocks and 2 steals per game
    - 5th player in NBA history to lead his team in points, rebounds, assists, blocks and steals
    - Highest PER in NBA history for a 22-year old
    - Only player outside of Lebron and Durant to have 50+ FG% among top-40 scorers

Statistically he is having the best season among all players in the NBA and one of the best seasons of all time.

Sure. And you can keep pretending that defense does not matter.

My advice: watch a few of his games, only Lebron can dominate in both ends like Giannis can do at stretches

Im' not. Lebron and Durant are easily the two best players in the NBA. Giannis is 3rd. But he is better than elite offensive players like Harden and Curry.

What are you talking about? Check the standings. They are above .500 starting Dellavedova and Snell in the back-court with Henson at centre. Delly and Snell has to be the worst starting guard combo in the league. Compare that to what Davis has achieved in terms of winning percentage with better teammates (Holiday, Evans, Gordon, Anderson).

lol i guess 34 games into a season and being 2 games over is the ultimate final judgement these days. #playeronlyfans

We can only judge his performance this season on those 34 games his team has played. And he has been elite both ways.

Not sure why you keep arguing. The stats say he is there. Just catch a few of his games when you have the opportunity to see for yourself.

no you judge by his career thus far which is 3 seasons and counting not 34 games in a season. now that makes more sense but apparently it doesn't to you so carry on with your agenda. I've seen plenty of him. don't really need you to act like you're telling me anything new

you can awe in his stats like a stats geek all you want. If you don't take into other aspects of the game that go along with it then there's no reason to take you seriously

I think in 7 years time there will be new players on the horizon that we simply do not know of..... (maybe not even drafted now)

Why would you judge his performance this year and how he ranks in today's NBA by looking into his past seasons?

I have no agenda, but yes, I do awe in his stats. 29 PER at age 22! How can you not marvel at that? The fact is that stats do not fully capture how good he is. For most defensive-minded players, stats under-rate the impact they have in the game. Yet, stats put him 2nd in PER and 2nd in RPM (even more impressive playing for an average team). Watch a few of his games and you will see how he influences the game in ways that are not captured in a simple box score. He is 3rd in the league in defensive plus minus, 13th in scoring (with only Durant more efficient than him among those scoring more). How many times have you as a fan seen someone that is so good at both ends?
