What makes Daz Cameron "too special"? He has done nothing special at all in his first 2 minor league seasons. He has a .637 OPS and his K/BB ration is over 2.5/1. He may become special, but he certainly hasn't shown anything.
if martes turns out to be as close to quintana I'd be jumping with joy. nothing is guaranteed though. You get a sure thing #2 on many playoff teams for the potential of Martes and cameron. It could be they both pan out or none, but you have to take that risk because the astros are in that position. The time is now. hey that should be the slogan completely different than 'it's time". That has the potential to be a sick rotation.** Quintana Dallas Lance Mc Mchugh Musgrove ** disregard if baseball gods strike with injuries.
Well this is just completely wrong. You are the only person on the planet (his family excluded) that values him more than Tucker. Well this is just completely wrong.
Quintana is an elite talent. I suppose he could put unwanted pressure on himself and wilt under the burden.... but Quintana has been good because... he's a good pitcher. Top 10 ERA last two years and top 8 in WAR three of the last four years. He's not going to come here and suddenly forget how to pitch, nor is that level of production a by-product of situation/atmosphere. The Astros would be fools to not deal for him, as long as Bregman's off the table. Qunitana is a certified TOR starter who's made at least 32 starts each of the last four years.
Its his first year in the minors. No one has patience? Charlie Blackmon's first year in the minors he had a .573 OPS and now he's NL MVP, Josh Donaldson's first year in the minors .487 OPS. Quintana is 46-46 on his career, coming off a season in which he was 9-11 with an era of 3.22 on a career era of 3.4 which makes him the 17th best pitcher in baseball right behind J.A. Happ. Think about that for a second. So no I would not trade DAZ or Martes because they're potential is greater than his. I would rather try and shim-sham the A's for Sonny Gray
You realize there are 30 teams with 5 spots each right? You don't even need to know anything about baseball to realize that statement makes him extremely valuable, and unlike Happ he has repeated this performance. I mean, bad posts are bad dude. You wouldn't trade Daz for Quintana...seriously?
Did you just use wins and losses to evaluate a pitcher? In 2016? He'd been top 9 in ERA each of the last two years and top 8 in WAR three of the last four. Jose Quintana is an elite pitcher who's 28 and making just $38MM the next four years. Far easier to find the next Martes or Cameron than it is a top 10 pitcher under 30 who's making peanuts.
So be patient with Cameron - understood, yet Musgrove's first ML stint was "complete dumpster juice" - got it.
You're really taking a myopic look at this. Unlike other sports, baseball has a very clear "buying" period and "selling" period. Young prospects are nice but at some point when you're ready to contend, you have to trade in your prospects to contend NOW. Astros are FINALLY there and they are all in. In regards to Quintana, just looking at his ERA is silly. He's an above average pitcher (career 118 ERA+) on a per inning basis with super durability (200+ IP the last four years) with team control till 2020. That durability is especially valuable to a team like the Astros that have pitchers like McCullers and Keuchel (who broke down last year) who can't pitch 200 innings a year. Having someone like Quintana will go a long way to extend our contention period to at least 2020.
Justify how obvious it was that he was "complete dumpster juice" when the vast majority of his appearances would be considered excellent. Literally - 3 poor starts, 8 other good to excellent appearances.
In his first season in the majors, Mike Trout had a 0.220 BA and and 0.671 OPS. He looked like ****. I can only assume this means Musgrove's career path will match Mike Trout, just as Cameron's will match Blackmon and Donaldson, yes?
Gunna throw it out there... he doesn't know what he's talking about and were throwing dumpster juice on this fire.
