They are signing GP2 (and Wiltjer), but are limited to 2 yrs now, because you need cap space (or an MLE/room exception) to sign anything longer. The cap-squeeze only allowed them to give 3 yrs to one rookie, while Nene required the MLE/Room exception.
Nice! Thanks. But that means a trade is sure to come soon because that's too many players for a 15 man roster if D-Mo is re-signed. Otherwise who would be the likeliest cut? Harden / Gordon / GP2 Bev / Brewer / KJ Ariza / Dekker Anderson / Beasley / Harrell / Wiltjer Capela / Nene / Nanu
We are now at 14 guaranteed contracts; (you forgot Prigioni). If we sign DMo, that makes 15. GP2 and Wiltjer would be 16 and 17. I'm sure the contracts will be non-guaranteed until they make the team (turn guaranteed on Oct 30th or whenever final cuts are). They might not make the team by sheer numbers-crunch, as we know Morey hates cutting guaranteed contracts. Morey likely looks to shed contracts.
If it's 3 years at 550K per then that's a STEAL for the Rockets. He will be at least a rotational big and possibly more. Needs time to develop but he's young, has good measureables, and was a great rebounder and defender in college. People are dumping on him just like they dumped on Capela (and Dekker). Give him some time!
Morey also offered 3 years contracts to Nick Johnson and Isaiah Canaan, so why should anyone be surprised even this guy will be a scrub and getting the same contract?

Onuaku might have not had a great summer league but other players who went on to have good careers also didn't set the world on fire in SL. So we'll see what happens with him. Hopefully he'll put it together.
I just want to go on record and say I think Chinanu could become a very solid role player. With this contract, it's a no-brainer to try to lock him in. Summer league is not the environment for players with his skillset to stand out.
He's worth the 0.5% of the cap. Give him a full season of development with RGV and then hope he can become your backup center.
Lol these are the clowns who said Dekker was a wasted pick last year. Unless they're high lottery picks most bigs take a long time to be good, the posters who keep complaining about the Rox wasting a roster space are also the ones who complained before about how Morey doesnt pick up developmental bigs like De Andre Jordan previously.
I'm just kidding. I have high hopes for the kid. I'm neither impressed nor disappointed in his performance, it's roughly what I expect from him in the NBDL. He'll probably be an excellent backup C next year.
