There are 5,000 US troops now in Iraq and Syria. Why exactly is the US there? WMD? JV Team militants? Oil?

[rQUOTEr]Car Bomb Kills At Least 44 In Kurdish-Held Area Of Syria

A street in Qamishli, a city in northern Syria that sits along the border with Turkey, was hit by a powerful car bomb Wednesday, killing at least 44 people and devastating a residential area, according to Syria's state-run media. Nearby buildings were severely damaged, collapsing walls and floors.

A video taken shortly after the bombing shows a scene of a car burning in a rubble-filled street, as bystanders try to help the wounded and look for survivors. In one portion of the video, a bucket of water is thrown on the fire.

Syrian public media outlet SANA reports that hospitals in Qamishli, located in Hasaka province, have received 44 bodies and 140 injured people — and that the death toll will likely rise.

According to monitor group the Syrian Observatory For Human Rights, the attack targeted al-Asayesh, the Kurdish security and intelligence agency, in a report that has been backed by an ISIS claim of responsibility.

As Reuters reports, "Kurdish forces control much of Hasaka province, after capturing vast areas from the jihadist group last year."

According to the United Nations, more than 280,000 people have been killed since Syria's civil war began five years ago. Millions more have fled the country, seeking safety elsewhere.[/rQUOTEr]

As the head of the state department during the formation of ISIS, Hillary holds a lot of blame, but it's really the entire inept administration.

Encouraging and supporting rebellions in Libya, Egypt, Ukraine, & Syria was the most incompetent, shortsighted policy I have seen in quite some time.

What did they think would happen when you support the overthrow of secularist dictators in favor of islamic radicals? Luckily Assad has been able to hang on, but were it not for the west's support of the Syrian rebels, ISIS never would have gained the foothold they did.

ISIS could have been crushed in its infancy if the west were to work together with Assad, instead of forcing him to fight two enemies on two different fronts. Instead, we now have tens of thousands of innocent lives lost.

"JV team"? Really freshman team militarily. Car bombs, suicide bombers, and shooting up malls aren't indicative of their actual strength.

UM...ISIS was born out of Al Quaeda Iraq...which was created after the US invade Iraq. If there was never an invasion of Iraq, there would be no ISIS. Put that in your pipe and smoke it. Guess what.....Im still waiting to see those WMDs?

    2 inept administrations really.

They weren't secular dictators, as Sadaam was a Sunni and Assad is part of the minority but powerful Alawite sect.

You can crush groups like ISIS militarily rather easily, however, that doesn't stop car bombings and the like.

You whine about terrorism and you whine about US troops sent to combat terrorism. You can't have it both ways.

inept? compared to what? what US "strategy" would have settled the Shia/Sunni/Kurd/Wahhabi/anti-royalist, Israeli/Palestinian/Hamas, Dictator/democracy issues in the Middle East?

You just manage it as best you can using reasonable risk/benefit analysis and provide as much humanitarian support as you can.

But as long as it is only a proxy war for super powers or major swaths of land and peoples are not being held, it's yes the JV. There is no air power, no artillery barrages, no tank corps... things a varsity team would have.

Maybe you should read my quote again.

It's not the first time you've chided Obama for sending special forces into Syria/Iraq.
