All those old guys are hating on the new guys, but the new guys did something cool for all the old guys. You have to give CP3 a lot of credit for doing it.

Maybe the NFLPA should try to take care their own too. Instead of leaving them at the mercy of the league.

good stuff. Is it all CP3 though? Not sure about his involvement and how much credit he should receive for it.

    edit:
I guess he should receive the minimal credit of helping this resolution to pass since he's the president of the player association.

Smart move because they will also get the HC after retirement.

That could be 40+ years of benefits depending on lifespan

He is the head of Players Union so I think he would have a large part in it. I think he and Lebron run the union.

This is a very ignorant take on the negotiations between the NFL and the NFLPA.

It's noble and all, but these guys are millionaires. I don't see why they can't afford their own healthcare.

The NFLPA is a bad union. They need to go dig up Marvin Miller. They pretty much just roll over whenever the NFL applies a little pressure.

Not all former NBA players are millionaires or handled their finances correctly. I'm glad to see the current players taking care of their predecessors, clearly the league wouldn't be what it is without the predecessors paving the way.

Huge salaries did not start until mid 90s.

Players from the 70s / 80s arent millionaires.

This sounds catchy, but I think you are mistaken in this belief. Are you sure "they pretty much just roll over whenever the NFL applies a little pressure"?
From the prior CBA to the current CBA, there have been major changes negotiated. And every time the NFL invokes a penalty, it is the NFLPA's duty to represent the player's side, and they do so diligently.

The players had to have played for three years to qualify, and probably made more per year in salary than most of us will in our lifetime. Sure they've put their body through incredible stress in their career, but they chose to do it. If they can't handle their finances, that's their problem. My heart doesn't weep for the Latrell Sprewells.

Sorry if it sounds callous, but there are many more deserving of healthcare and charity.

Didn't realize healthcare was charity when its self funded.

And as was mentioned before, many many many of the pre 90s players arent even close to millionaires because salaries weren't nearly as high.

    Get over yourself dude.

This. This makes me mad because 610 was praising this. But it's pathetic that they were or are millionaires but yet don't buy insurance. I work for myself and I was buying health insurance for years and don't even make any where near six figures and I payed a lot for health insurance. They were making millions. I ended up never using it so basically canceled it recently.

Not all the ancients got millions
    and
Alot of them go broke. . . .good to have a fall back and at least have
    decent healthcare

Thing is. . . . It think they get a better plan as a group
    than as individuals

It is their problem . . . so they just did something about it
They ensure they will always have healthcare . . . they did it WHILE THEY ARE PLAYING ...

This is like b****ing about someone setting up a 401k
    instead of handling their own money . . . . .

You can do both . . . . . but best to have at least one guaranteed

Bull**** . .. . They pay into it while they are playing

Alot of people setup things while they are working for when they retire
People getting pissy about small isht

For those saying these guys have tons of cash and don't need it, it says the requirements are only 3 years in the league. I'm not sure if it's even 3 real seasons, this could go to guys who get NG contracts that only play a couple of games and get cut.

This could help out a lot of minimum players. A lot of athletes don't know how to manage money at all. In a league where so much money is being made, this is nice for the players.
