Alligators are not native to Africa, just Crocodiles.

On Hippos, you see it said all the time that they kill more people in Africa than Crocs but there are a couple of issues to consider here:
    1) There aren't reliable numbers on Hippo deaths
    2) Many hippo deaths come from the tipping over boats and people drowning
    3) Another big chunk of deaths come from Hippos charging back into the river and killing people who are on the banks, but not necessarily out of aggressiveness.

Hippos do get territorial and attack people, but researchers have spent plenty of time among them without getting hurt.

The Nile Crocodile and Saltwater Crocs are man-eaters on the other hand and have no issue attacking people for food. Alligators however are not known for a propensity to attack people.

There is a large, thriving population of Hippos in Columbia thanks to Pablo Escobar.

On a related note ... **** the Gators!

Man mocks alligators, jumps in water and is killed in Texas
    by Andreas Preuss, CNN
Updated 7:23 AM ET, Sat July 4, 2015

(CNN)A man who apparently mocked alligators, then jumped in the water -- despite warning signs -- is dead after being attacked in Texas.

Orange County Police were called to Burkart's Marina near the Louisiana state line early Friday morning after reports that Tommie Woodward, 28, and an unidentified woman were swimming in a bayou and had been attacked by a large alligator.

Woodward's body was found several hours later. The woman was not injured.

Orange County Justice of the Peace Rodney Price told CNN affiliate KFDM that Woodward ignored verbal warnings and a posted "No Swimming Alligators" sign and seemed to mock the deadly creatures before going in the water.

"He removed his shirt, removed his billfold ... someone shouted a warning and he said '**** the alligators' and jumped in to the water and almost immediately yelled for help," Price said.

The "No Swimming Alligators" sign was posted this week after a 10-foot alligator was spotted in the bayou waters.

That is my assumption. No matter of money would bring their son back, but Disney has the $$$ to help do whatever is they want to move on with the rest of their lives (whether not work or fund their organization).

Right, you gotta respect them in their habitat (I mean especially if there's a ****ing sign/warning???) :) When I read the story originally about the "**** gators" guy... I figured he definitely had to be on something/borderline insane (maybe just stupid)... Then again he did yell for help. But man in the water it doesn't take a lot to lose.

Anyway I'm hoping the family at Disney got something big (even if under the table), man.. I can't imagine that happening to anyone, especially on a vacation. Disney/resort knew better than to setup beach area by the water (even with the no swimming sign, it didn't say no getting near the water..). I'm surprised this hasn't happened more, obviously if everyone had constant media access in the 80s Disney might have followed up more with the one in ~87.

If Disney didn't give the family at least 8 figures, they were ripped off.

I am sure Disney made a sizable contribution to their foundation.
