I don't think the defense is saying he didn't shoot the cop.

I think the defense is saying it didn't happen like the state thinks - angry black man guns down LEO on duty.

    The (only?) witness is tainted...

It's like Houston's own mini-OJ trial. Suspect is obviously guilty, so put the total incompetence of law enforcement on trial.

Cop gets shot at gas station. Ends up he was having an affair. Story stays quiet for some strange reason, we never learn why the man killed the cop. Now a bunch of stories are dropping about the entire police force sleeping with the same mistress.

Sheriff Hickman said "Cops lives matter" when a guy shot Goforth but he writes a letter to the parole board to vouch for the killer of one of his deputies?

Seems like theres all kinds of scum through and through the HCSO.

    http://www.chron.com/news/houston-texas/article/Hearing-scheduled-for-Shannon-Miles-12194360.php

Shannon Miles, the man accused of fatally shooting Harris County sheriff's Deputy Darren Goforth, is expected to plead guilty Wednesday to capital murder in exchange for life without parole, escaping the death penalty, officials have confirmed.

Miles, 32, is accused of ambushing Goforth at a gas station in August 2015. Miles' lengthy history of mental health issues has stymied the case; he has been in and out of state mental hospitals since being arrested days after the shooting.

In April, Montgomery County District Attorney Brett Ligon was appointed as the special prosecutor after Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg recused her office because at least one of her top lieutenants had represented witnesses in the case.

In a press release from Ligon's office, officials said they will meet with reporters at 3 p.m. with a member of Goforth's family, but declined to provide additional details.

Three officials who spoke on condition of anonymity said they expect a plea deal allowing Miles to escape the death penalty.

Ligon, with help from assistant district attorneys in his office, is expected to appear in court Wednesday for a hearing before state District Judge Susan Brown.

Defense attorney Anthony Osso declined to comment on the scheduled hearing.

Plans for a plea deal are tenuous because of worldwide publicity and outrage about the ambush, which was captured on surveillance video. Prosecutors were expected to seek the death penalty under Texas law that allows for execution if a peace officer is intentionally killed in the line of duty.

Several issues, in addition to mental health, have arisen as the case has progressed.

Although Goforth was in uniform at a gas station in his patrol car, Osso has argued that he was not working, because the married deputy was apparently meeting his mistress. A sheriff's office investigator who was working on the case apparently also had an affair with the woman, leading to his firing.

If the case went to trial, Osso was expected to delve deeply into the personal lives of the woman, deputy Goforth and the disgraced detective who was investigating the crime.

The mechanics of a plea deal Wednesday are also problematic because the main criminal courthouse, which has secure access for defendants, is closed because of record flooding from Hurricane Harvey.

Sheriff's deputies will have to securely move Miles from the Harris County jail to a different courthouse, likely the deteriorating Family Law Center on Congress, because there are holding cells in some courtrooms.

I'm wondering if the real story behind this will ever come out. I'd wager that the murder was also envolved with this women.

Why is he considered a scapegoat when he was the actual murderer?

Where there two or three different cops sleeping with the eyewitness who all lied about it and tried to keep her away from the investigation?

What happened to these lying corrupt cops?
