Jordan's return does help solidify both championships; and does jab his "almighty-ness".

'86-'98, the playoffs had only 2 different players lead in PPG. Olajuwon 3x.

Best combo the league has seen. Better than Wilt-Russell and Shaq-Duncan. Better than Brady-Manning

 

I think one reason is that a lot of basketball fans were too young at that time (or not even born) when the Bulls and Magic played.

They don't even realize that Jordan played during that second year. And then when it gets pointed out to them, they start making excuses so that they don't have to admit they are wrong.

 

100% those Hakeem teams got shafted.

We won the first one and still didn't get the sports illustrated cover right after.

I love me some Robert Horry. Incredible career, and I'm glad it began with in Houston. He and OT are two of the most underrated Rockets, in my opinion.

 

It is not the people that didn't know Michael played in 95 that bugs me, it is the people that knew he played but makes up excuses for Jordan failing to get through the magic in 95.

 

Anytime a Rocket fan/ player is asked the question 'could Houston beat the Bulls' the answer needs to start with [as Horry did] 'Mike was back in 95'. Then some trivia: 'what player scored the most points in a 95' regular season game and in a playoff game' -- then discuss the head to head record. There are other tidbits to throw in -but these are the core to start with.

 

Correct question... "if Jordan never retired".

Incorrect question... "if Jordan never played".

Incorrect question... "if Jordan wasn't there".

 

Well thats why you don't bet against the NBA cashcow. The NBA would like to Men in Black memory zap it away.

I hate when people try to asterisk championships. Houston won those fair and square. If Jordan didn't retire...you could say if Larry/Magic teams didn't get old how many would Jordan have?

If you win a championship, you win. Cavs complain about if they didn't have injuries they could beat GS...well it was their own darn fault that they couldn't beat their opponents into submission by the end of the 3rd to get their starters to rest. In Horse racing if you don't pace your stamina and keep beating your horse, you can't blame others for losing.

 

Magic is irrelevant regarding MJ's titles. Why? Because CHI beat Lakers in '91.
Retirement isn't mentioned if Rockets had beaten the Bulls - or anyone during full MJ seasons.
This isn't a Rockets specific issue. ANY TEAM WOULD'VE BEEN QUESTIONED.

Teams' aging can help other teams prosper, but age is NOT a notable situation compared to an abrupt retirement.

Would've been fun watching Hakeem destroy the Bulls though.
