Says he who is posting on a board about said franchise. If you don't like it, don't watch. There are plenty of people in the city of Houston who don't care about the Texans and don't feel the need to complain about those who do.

 

Nice sentiment but it is the nature of the NFL and the state we live in. The only time the stadium is empty is if the team announced they are leaving. Browns fans are relentless. Cowboys fans are everywhere even when the team is not playing well. Raider fans are raider fans. Chiefs fans are notorious. Eagles and Jets fans might get rude or disrespectful but they show up and buy stuff. On the contrary, I don't think fans not buying stuff or not showing up will make a team more accountable. See Jacksonville. And if things get bad enough, they will just start talking about moving the team. Smh

 

Theu should be looking for a moneyball gm. Like it or not, it won't be long until the same revolution in analytics that occurred in baseball and basketball occurs in football.

 

Analytics hasn't really taken off in football like it has for baseball or basketball. There's just too many variables.

 

It actually has already been in place for decades... you just don't realize it.

The scouting combine is essentially a gathering of purely analytical data in order to weed out the hundreds of NFL-eligible players.

Teams switching schemes/game-plans week to week are largely data-driven processes. Teams routinely use percentages and actual data when making decisions on going for it on 4th down, going for 2, and rushing the QB.

The run and shoot was basically the NFL version of what the Rockets are doing with the 3 point line... except teams used analytics and schemes to figure out how to get it out of the league for good.

The west coast offense was a percentage-driven scheme that showed that short-quick passes (usually high percentage) was a far more effective way of attacking blitzing defense vs. the long "Air Coryell" passing schemes.

 

This team is STILL extremely young.

You see what is happening in Arizona/Phoenix right now? That literally took 25+ years to happen.

The fact that this many people are "irate" and "angry" over their performances merely adds to the fandom... apathy and lack of hatred/interest is far more damning than negativity and anger towards a team's performance.

From my understanding Rick is getting the people that BOB wants..

So if the Texans get a new GM, does he get the people he wants or will he do the same and get the people that BOB wants?

In that case do you blame the GM or do you blame the coach?

If the reports are true. O'Brien wanted Mallet cut right away and Smith said no because he wanted a capable backup for the Dolphins game.

Say Mallet never made it to Miami. Hoyer gets injured. Who plays QB?

If the reports are true, it shows that BOB is an idiot who makes knee jerk reactions without thinking out the consequences.....which is probably the case given his track record.

So many teams love signing the Texans castoffs and usually with pretty good success. I wonder how many are waiting for Smith.

 

Also, the leaks are probably coming from Rick Smith. He's looking to make BOB look as bad as possible in hopes that McNair places the blame on him.

 

If so, then he should be fired and replaced with an actual GM. He can be President of Sitting Behind a Desk and Follow Orders for the Texans though.

 

It could just as easily be coming from BOB trying to portray the Texans failures on a dysfunctional team and not his inept coaching. It sets him up for his next gig.

So B.O.B wants Mallet to be cut the season after we spent a 6th round pick to trade for him even though it was widely believed the Patriots were going to cut him anyway and after we gave Mallet a 2 year, 7.5 million dollar contract.

See, this is why the Texans are and always will be a joke of a franchise until they change their philosophy. They just suck at evaluating the character or talent of the guys they "want" and give sizable contracts too. Even though Mallet is only guaranteed a million or so, how many times has this or something similar happened to the Texans?

How many 2nd to 6th round picks have been wasted on guys that turned out to be absolute losers and were cut or traded away not even 2 or 3 years after they were drafted?

How many our of "marquee" free agent signings have been total zeroes on the field for us (looks like Wilfolk will be the most recent) or has actually hurt us off the field (Ed Reed)?

How many horrible extensions have been given to players coming off of or has a history of injuries that are now destroying our cap situation, like the Schaub extension after his injury, Cushing extension after his first knee injury and now the Foster extension after his trending injury concerns.

How many players who were deemed "unworthy" of an extension by the Texans have absolutely blossomed in their new situation and would have been very valuable players for us because of the holes we have on this team?

Just too many for a team that wants their fans and the league to take them seriously. I understand mistakes in judgement, it happens to everyone, but the rate at which it happens to the Texans is just unacceptable.

Its not just a coincidence anymore, but almost expected for the Texans. And that reflects the team, top to bottom and, primarily, who is making the decisions for the team at the end of the day.

Rick Smith has been given 8 years as the GM of this team. What has he accomplished to explain his tenure? Not much.

The Texans are overdue for a change, and it has to start at Rick Smith.

There is zero chance Rick Smith survives yet another regime change.

As it is, he probably doesn't survive this regime as BOB will angle for his own guy.

If McNair brings in another consultant, the first thing he'll say is that Rick Smith's non-transparent role has basically outlived its usefulness.
