http://www.tonyperottiusa.com/ make some great looking leather briefcases that don't cost a fortune. i have one of the larger ones with a dedicated padded laptop compartment that fits easily along with several other items comfortably, including legal sized documents. incredibly functional with multiple compartments and it looks great.
I can't believe some of the folks in this thread. You seriously think it's feminine to carry a messenger bag?
lol...relax....i just like inserting friends reference where i can. this is the one i have...but its very manly!
I have the thin briefcase bag and I had to quit taking it through airports. I was constantly getting stopped by people wanting to know where I got it. Lifetime warranty, GREAT company.
I use a backpack both for daily purposes and when meeting clients... it seems to be fine and professional enough... because it is a nice backpack, not one for school. It's pretty similar to this. http://www.orvis.com/p/bullhide-and-canvas-backpack/6a0x I didn't want to spend $500+, I needed it to be for a laptop and have rooms for lots of other stuff, and I wanted to be able to carry it on my back... because that's meaningfully easier.

There's a kickstarter going on for this. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/peak-design/the-everyday-messenger-a-bag-for-cameras-and-essen Looks pretty slick.
I wear a small backpack and always make sure to rock the double straps (tightened as high as it can go). All you hipsters with your messenger bags... Spoiler
ou might like some of the Ernest Alexander bags- i have one and it's beautifully made: http://www.ernestalexander.com/bags also check out Waterfield Designs at SFBags.com. i have one of these: but they have messenger styles as well.
Well, this was certainly a successful fishing venture. Don't play video games, nor drink energy drinks fwiw.
Seconded. When I lived in Philly everyone had messenger bags but now living in the SW it's much more casual and I just use a backpack. Just depends on the your office/clientele/location.
So just an update but I did end up ordering that Billykirk bag. I will unfortunately have to return it, bag is beautiful and well made, slick and stylish. Only issue is that it has only two compartments which renders it near useless for anyone using it other than carrying a thin book and an iPad. No storage for pens, business cards or the like. Recommend for light use but if you're planning on using/abusing it I'd probably look elsewhere.
