It was discussed last season. They want to eliminate many of the back to backs and one way to do that is shorten the preseason and start the season early and start the playoffs a little later. Adam Silver was talking like it was going to happen, not sure if it was this season or next.
Seriously, I would love to see this. I would like to see if he can still lock down pfs like the old days. Would be fun to see him match up with Faried.

Pretty dumb move, no Dwight and no Lawson. We went to the WCF for crying out loud, we can't get a nice opener for once? Last I can recall was in 08-09 after Artest acquisition.
^ Honestly doesn't matter as long as our first nationally televised game will be against a top tier opponent
I dont understand your complaint, Im assuming you want an opener against a better team. If you know that we wont have Dwight or Ty for the opener, why would you want to open against a better team? Wouldnt you want an easy front loaded schedule so we can work everybody back in and then go hard once everybody is back and participating?
We are still great without them so yes I want a top-tier team to start off against. Opening against Denver is just silly because of the Ty trade and him not being available. You can bet your ass opening games are not random so they could've given us something better.

You are correct, the change is being implemented for this season. I remember hearing 610 talk about offseason changes for this upcoming season and how disappointed they were that the free throw rule didn't change, but this one did.
