There is no way for anyone to really know unless they know the specific size and location of his injury. Without that information, it would be only a guess, even for an expert on the subject.
I am quietly optimistic I also have low expectations. I think if he is decent to good this year. . .that is a win I don't expect ALL WORLD until at least next year. This is basically his rookie season The Mental Game development is behind a bit as well Rocket River

Well, yeah. If you're on the PUP list in the preseason, you can be taken off it at any time. If you're on the PUP list to start the regular season, you have to sit out the first 6 games.
Wrong already. More like it. Half right! If it's any indication as to how O'Brien manages players and decides things from last season, it's normal to see these decisions as far as putting Clowney on the PUP. It's best to have him the healthiest for the start. He likes to play it safe for the health first, then the ability to have a better team.
Panic? He's coming off of microfracture. I'll count it as a blessing if he's back to full speed by midseason. What I mean is keep expectations low. At this point we should probably just be happy if he's able to eventually become a guy that can stay on the field and contribute regularly, based on the last couple of years worth of injuries.
Are you just hunting down posts of mine to show me when I've been wrong? That's really sad. Also, I'm not wrong until I'm wrong. I really hope he's off the PUP before the season starts and, by all indications, he will. But they haven't even arrived for camp yet...so no one knows for sure.
I will go one step further and say that I don't expect that from him until next year. My gut does tell me that he'll be on the PUP when the season starts but again it is what it is.
I see no reason to rush him. If we had to wait until week 7 to see him play so be it. This defense will be nasty with a healthy clowney
Expectations last year? 120% Expectations this year? 20% Hopefully by next year he'll be ready to go. Otherwise we burned a #1 pick on nothing. I was jazzed when we got him to play opposite JJ. But it's surely been a disappointment so far. I guess it goes to show what a blessing it is for some of these guys to have long careers with minimal injuries
