I really, really like this deal. It doesn't quite meet the Rockets need of a distributing PG, but they desperately need some quality shooters off the bench. I was actually reading about Miami's interest in Thornton this morning and thought, "I wish the Rockets could somehow get a guy like that for cheap." Getting him for the veteran minimum without giving up any of the MLE or any other assets really makes this is a steal.

Never been a big fan, he's a pure chucker who arrived about 10 years late to the league for his shtick to work. But at the vet minimum, hard to complain. Depth is depth.
Have always like Marcus' game. Scoring mentality, can get you 20 points easy. Love the signing. If he can get minutes and shoot 38%+ from three, it will be a complete steal!
He's awful defensively as well. Really nothing risked though, so I agree, not much to complain about.
In Dallas probably. If we can swing for another point guard, there is not room for him unless we also move Johnson.
I like his shooting ability but I don't trust him to be the offensive creator for the second unit if we're serious about contending.
Hmmm, Terry is close with the boys. Wonder if Morey would consider bringing JET back as an assistant coach?
Love this signing, always liked Thornton and felt like his career suffered from bad team situations. Terry is gone I think, perfect replacement.
What are you taking about? He's a better offensive player than anyone the Rockets has coming off the bench this past season. And they were in the WCF.
Spoiler I really liked having JET on the team last year. He was a solid veteran presence and, above all, a leader. I'd love to have him back with the team in any capacity, but I understand if he doesn't return. We only had him for one year and most people seem to appreciate what he brings now. Imagine how Mavs fans feel about him. He'll probably end up back in Dallas, and that's ok. Hopefully his attitude rubbed off on our younger guys and we show everyone what a healthy Rockets team can do this year.
