Alternatively- he could sign a one year deal for the max, then just re-up for that 5th year with the new team- while raking in the endorsements and allowing the team to rebuild around him when he's an RFA.
He can make huge endorsement money playing in New Orleans. Didn't Durant sign a deal worth 300 million playing in OKC?
Agreed. He should find a 1 year deal to whoever can offer him one. Then super max it the following year. gitr dun mauri.
But after those taxes and agent cut and other fees/expenses much closer to $14 million per year. Still, I wouldn't be crying about it.

LOL this is both a good and bad thing. Bad because wtf is he doing taking corner 3's? But good because they want him to play away from the paint, means he'll preserve his health by minimizing contact.
I dunno, I don't think Davis taking 3s is a good thing for their offense. It would maximize Asik's skillset because Davis wouldn't be in the lane, but Davis's best skill is still the PnR or the PnP. Davis should focus on his post-game, tbh. It's the only thing that's missing from his skillset that is keeping him from being absolutely unstoppable.
Agreed. Though I don't know why he couldn't work on all of it. Corner 3's Mid range jumpers Post game offense Repeat all summer.
Preserving himself for the long run. Say all he does and play a stretch 4 for the first half and then come second half he does his thing in the post or vice versa. He'd have a longer career and the Pelicans are playing much more winning basketball.
Yeah and it's probably too late in his basketball playing career to develop a three point shot. A post game for him would be very dangerous, although it would render Asik useless.
it's too late for a 22 year old to develop a 3 pt shot who already has a solid midrange jumper? not at all. still very early.
I would sign the tim duncan contract. Basically, duncan never signed a deal in which he couldnt get out after 3 yrs. That put pressure on management to keep improving the roster. He kept pressure on Spurs.
yes and no, there's the 2016-17 ~89m new cap money and the following year ~110m new cap money. Personally i'd recommend Davis sign for 3+1 so he's at 7 years in that 110m bracket, when there's a pretty solid chance the bri will be closer to 55%
I asked my 2 year old son what he would do in this situation and he said "Blueberries!" and poked a hole in one. So there's your answer.

To be more accurate, Davis commits to the Pelicans but the Pelicans don't commit to New Orleans, the NBA's weakest market by a mile.
